Sims, Uni ted States marshal for the Eastern District of South Carolina. The ar rests will be made within the next few daysTxy deputy marshals and the men will be given hearings before United States commissioners of their respective localities. Most of the alleged slackers are negroes, there being only three or four white men in the list. The cases against the men were worked up by the federal authorities. This is the first batch of warrants for .alleged slackers that have been received by Hie marshal’s office in tliis district. There have been a number of arrests made in th.e. West ern District of South Carolina. The penalty for failure to register for military service is a term in prison and forcible registration.
