Kirkland delivered the,baccalaureate sermon to the grad uating class of the . Barnwell High School at the Baptist Church Sunday morning. The commencement exer cises will be held in the School audi torium this (Thursday) evening and tomorrow evening. Mrs. F. H. Huggins and little son, Frank, returned home Sunday after noon from Columbia, where the latter has been undergoing treatment in a hospital for the past week. Their friends will he glad to know that the little fellow is well on the road to re covery. .Two negroes escaped from the Barn well County chain gang last week. One of them was a trusty and effected hia escape during the day. The other succeeded m cutting his wuy to liberty from the iron cage at night, evidently with outaide assistance. WHEREAS information has been received at this Department that an Atrocious Murder was committed in the County of Barnwell on or about the fifteeth day of March, 1916, upon the body of by John Phoenix, and that the said John Phoenix has fled from justice.
