The high cost of living for the past several months has made it impossible for thousands to put aside anything for ”a rainy day”—in fact, it has been a desperate struggle with many for the bare necessities of life. What, then, is to become of them if the breadwin ner is taken ? —- G 1 ^ Dispatches in the papers indicate that Congress is about to take some action in the matter of food control. It is certainly high time that a .Hop be put to the criminal activities of speculators in the actual necessities of lofe. The price of wheat is now' well over $3 a bushel and it is pre dicted that unless the government takes a hand the price will advance to $5 a bushel in a very short time. If it were absolutely necessary, the American people could live without wheat bread, but according’ to the department of agrinilture there is no reason now for famine prices.
