She is home on an enforced vacation, her hands having been painfully burned while making candy several days ago. Master F. W. Bates spent several (lays in Augusta last week at the bed side of his father, Dr. W. S. Bates, who died Wednesday evening at the home of his sister, Mrs. W. H. Brog- german, on Calhoun Street. Mr. B. F. Owens, of Dunbarton, was in the city Tuesday. He states that the new Board of County Commis sioners have been re-commissioned by the Governor and will probably hold their first meeting this week. , Asparagus growers have been re ceiving very satisfactory prices so far for the “grass.” It is understood that one planter received as high as $2 a bunch for one shipment. The growth was, retarded somewhat by the cold weather of Saturday and Sunday. A negro boy of the Joyce Branch section suffered a horrible death Fri day. He was .thrown from a mule, his foot being entangled in one of the trace chains. Before the frightened animal was stopped, the unfortunate negro had been dragged to death'. — I— . 4 Mr, and Mrs. G.
