In addition to wanting the press ‘‘muzzled,'* many •people in South Carolina evidently wish to rob some of their fellow citizens of the right of free speech. Whither are we drifting? But unlike two years ago, both the Bleaseites and Antis are indulging in this question able practice. At Spartanburg Satur day Senator Smith spoke under great difficulties, while the Blease candi dates for state offices fared no better. As we have remarked before, each candidate in the race has paid his as sessment and for that reason; if not in the name of common decency, he should be given a respectful hearing. If the voters do not approve of the man or his record, let them express their disapproval at the ballot box. We can see no harm in the support ers of any candidate applauding his speeches, but certainly they should not be allowed to rob his opponent of his Ood-given right of free speech. What such howlers need is a dose of com pulsory education in what it takes to make a gentleman by giving them a few hours in the lock-up, followed by a session of the police court. doing other things. Doctors seem to be "powerful anxi ous" to be elected on the Columbia city council. Are present conditions in the capital city so bad as to require medical attention? ——. “"We suppose it can be said of the canr- paign meetings at Columbia and Spar tanburg that they were “howling successes.” Judging from reports, the negroes of Barton and Appleton failed to ob serve a “safe and sane Fourth.” Have you enrolled yet? One Barnwell supporter of the governor stated a short time ago that his principle objection to Senator Smith was that Smith told the people six years ago that if he went Jo the Sen ate he wonld put the price of cotton to 15 cents, ridiculing the idea that any man could boost the price. W'ell, Smith was elected and hasn't cotton brought 15 cents? Why not give the devil his due? Notice. The nail drove part of his black woolen sock far op into his foot. He remov ed as much of tbe sock as be couto, put oa Allen's i Uleerine Salve, and kept right on with his work. The salve drew out parts of the sock and all other poisons and in a week his foot was healed up. This salve is one of the oldest rem edies in America and since 1869 it has been known as the only salve powerful enough to cure chronic ulcers and old sores of long standiug. Allen’s Uleerine Salve acts by draw ing out the prisons and healing the sore from the bottom up. It is so powerful that it heals new cuts and sores in one-third the time that com mon salves and liniments take. And it heals scalds and burns without a scar.—Sold by C. N.
