Dicks. Mr. G. D. Gurley, who is connected with the Thomas Bros. Realty and Auc tion Co., of Greensboro, N. C., was in town Tuesday. He is advertising some valuable Wilhston property for sale in this issue. At a meeting of the Barnwell Munici pal Democratic Club, held in the Opera House Thursday evening, Harold A. The Barnwell County friends of Mr. James Hampton Halford will learn with much regret of his death in El Paso, Texas, on Saturday, November 15th, aged 36 years and 9 months. About three years ago Mr. Halford left Barnwell to seek health in the West and for a time there was a mark ed improvement in his condition, so much so that he invested in property in Texas. His health, however, failed again and after several weeks illness he answered the last call. His body is being brought to the old home for burial and is expected here today, accompanifed by his brother, Charlie,who went West with him. Mr. Halford is survived by three brothers, Messrs. W. C. and Dan Halford, of Au gusta, and Charlie Halford, of Isabel, Ark. He was a member of the Metho dist Church and was a man who made friends of ^veryone. R*»olution> of Retpect. Whereas, it has pleased the Almighty Ruler of the Universe to call from his labors here, to rest and refreshment above, the soul of our Brother W. T^ Grubbs, Therefore, be it resolved—That in the death of Bro. Grubbs, the State and County has lost an honest and upright citizen,Harmony Lodge a true and zeal ous member and the brethren a faithful and loyal friend. That while we deeply mourn his loss, and sincerely sympathize with his bereaved family, we bow in humble submission to the will of him, who doeth all things well. That these Resolutions be published in the County papers, a copy suitatily engrossed sent to his family, a page in our minute book inscribed to his mem ory, and that the Lodge be draped in mourning for the usual period. Johnson, of Charleston. Four children were born of this union. It is f>eculitrlv sad that Mrs. Johnson was the second meml»er of the family to Ik* takeji within the past few weeks, her brother, Dr J M Smite, d»«*d about two months ago His death seemed to depress her very much and she never fallv recovered from the shock. Mrs Johnson was for many years a consistent member of the Baptist Church Now her hands lie peacefully folded in the eternal rest, her lips are hushed and dumb ..nd her eyes no longer look with kindly light. May the gentle spirit which once animated them live through endless ages of bright eternity w ith the Master she lov ed and served so well. She leaves many aching hearts among a large circle of friends. Surviving Mrs. Johnssn are her four children, Mr. J. W. In the first place, the farm will be In the country, but not too far In. The idea la to have It near enough the city to run in for a night at the theater anc get home again by 12:30. The farmhouse will be a little more complicated than farmhouses usually are. It will be hot-water heated and vacuum cleaned. It will have of tiled bathrooms perhaps three, a Dutch kitchen, an oak-painted dining room, a library, billiard room, den, smoking room, a Louis Quatorze drawing room and bedrooms with period furniture. Farmers whose tastes are not so sim ple will doubtless add a pergola and a sunroom to this plain, but serviceable, equipment. The farm, whether it Is 10, 50 or 100 acres, must have a cow, chickens and a garden. The cow will lay milk ■and butter, the chickens will lay eggs and broilers and the gardens will lay •vegetables and small fruits. Also there will be an orchard that will lay apples. Since the farm is to be self- contained, it will raise its own violets, mushrooms and American Beauty roses, and will, of course, have a gaso line well at which the automobile can be watered. While the owner of the farm will not engage in the actual manual labor of tilling the soil, he expects greatly to assist nature by ex ercising an intelligent supervision over the growing crops.
