WILUSTON’S MISFORTUNE.
AVilliston was vi«lted by a very pa

morning about 11 o'clock and as a re
sult thrre families are homeless The
fire started In the old Broadwater home
now occupied by Mr. J. S- Ussery, pre
sumably in the kitchen. A high south-
vest w .ml was blowing which fanned
the flames to fury and it was seen at
once that the house was doomed and
possibly the greater part of the town,
Th* residence* of -Meaars. G. A. Benoott
and T J. Woodward next caught and
were entirely consumed. The houses
wore ail as dry as tinder, owing to the
long rainless spell we have had, and
the only thing that saved the business
section from total destruction was a
fortunate veering of the wind eastward.
This, however, drove the sparks to the
barns and outhouses of Dr. J. I*. Lee,
which were burned together with their
contents Including several hundred
bushels of corn. The home* of Mr. J.
E. Newsom and Mrs. J. A. Rountree
caught but the fire was extinguished
before much damage had been done.
