TWO MEN LYNCHED One White* ami One Black Murtlerer Hung Together. Charles Salyers, white, and Harry Gates, colored, were taken from the county jail at Lexington, Mo., by a masked mob at 1.30. Wednesday morning and lynched. They were charged with killing George W. Johnson, a wealthy far mer, who surprised them at his hen house near town a week ago. They were strung up and Salyers made a statement to the mob saying that Gates had tired the shot that killed Johnson. • Johnson was one of the wcathirst and most respected men in the com munity and the feeling against the two men was intense. Adams, who was under arrest in Savannah, escaped being brought to this state proliably through a telegraphic error in sending a name. This Is probably the first Instance of the kind that ever happened in this state or any other. Governor McSweeney telegraphed the governor of Georgia to have the sheriff of Savannah hold J. H. Adams until he could send requisition papers for him. An hour or two afterwards he received a message from Governor Gaudier that he had Instructed the sheriff to hold “Williams'’- us request ed. Governor McSweeney wak non plussed for the moment, as he could not recall any “Williams” that he wanted held. Cut in Twain. „ e A dreadful accident 'happened in the yard of the Atlantic Coast Line In Columbia on Tuesday, afternoon, 12th instant, whereby Yard Conduc tor J. W. LaMotte, one of the most popular employes of the road, lost his life. Tlie victim was a Columbian, the eldest son of Col. Thomas J. La Motte, and leaves a widow and several children, who were not in the city at the time. He was alwut 45 years of age. The accident happened in this way: Conductor LaMotte was taking a numl>e,r of airs down to one of the phosphate mills. He was standing on the top of Hie second car when sud denly he lost his balance in some way and pitched between the cars. A dispacth from Manila says an in vestigation made by the constabulary to clear up the facts in the killing of a Cebu coaching party of four school teachers, shows that the party was ambushed 12 miles from Cebu. Two teachers were shot and killed at the first volley, a third, who ran, was shot in the !>ack, and a fourth who was captured, was shot in the chest while he was praying for mercy. It Is sus pected that the fourth man was burled alive, as his wound was slight, and probably would not have caifsed his death. Dogs dug'up two of the bodies and devoured.the fiesh.
