The following is the weekly bulletin of the condition of the weather and the mips, issued lagk week by Direc tor Bauer of the South Carolina sec tion of the climate and crop service of the United States Weather Bureau. The temperature averaged about 3 degrees belpw normal during the week ending Monday. July 28th, with a mean of about 78 degrees. The maxi mum was 98 degrees at Conway on the 22d, tire minimum 60 degrees at Green ville on the 22d and 26th, and at Batcs- burg on the 23rd. The sunshine was below normal, with much threatening weather, but wltb little ruin. The winds were generally light, and dur ing the greater portion of the week were easterly. There were frequent local showers, copious In the southeastern counties and In a few localities elsewhere, but generally light. Joseph Beddal, a leading merchant and cousin of Sheriff Beddal was brutally clubbed to death and upwards of a score of strikers whose names at this writing could not be ascertained were shot by policemen and It is expected that many deaths will result. Sheriff iieddal arrived from Potts- ville at 7.45 o’clock with a posse of deputies. He has taken up headquar ters at the Ferguons hotel. To an Associated Press reporter he admitted that he has asked Gov. Stone to send the militia. The governor wired that If the citizens of the town petition for troops, he will send them and a peti tion Is being circulated for that pur pose now. The trouble started about 6 o'clock Wednesday , afternoon when Deputy Sheriff Thomas Beddal attempted to escort two non-union workers through the strikent’ line of pickete. The workmen were dressed in their street clothes, but one of them carried a bundle under bis arm and this aroused U|e suspicion df the striker*.
