It lo no doubt that It la one thing fhL country really nkedadrtddnewbleh will euv here when It fete here. 1 saw the working of one once on the tiiate farm dt Boykins, 8. C-, and will speak a few words about It for the beneAt of those who have not seen one. The one In question was a -mall one, I forget the number, but It was a small concern and uoultl be carried about on any com mon two-hor«e wagon and was not one of the large machines such a* one now sold by the McCormick Co. Wc had a 4 horse engine to run It with. The corn to be shredded waa cut down and put In shocks to dry as thoroughly as pos sible. At shredding time It was haul ed to the shredder and fed into the ma chine by two able bodied men as fast as thev could shove it to the rollers. One man on each side of the machine was required to feed it, picking up 3 and 4 stalks st each grab. One or two other men were required to bring It from the wagons and throw It on the platform in front of the rollers. The butt end of the stalk was fed Arat to the rollers. When the ear of corn came to the roller It was neatly plnclied off and slip shucked, part of the shuck passing on through with the sulk and leaves and the ear dropped down through a shute to the outside of the machine where It was picked up and thrown into a pile away from the machine. The stalk and leaves passed on through and wa« cut up ln*f and A Inch lengths and very line. It was so Ane that some of the negroes used It to make bedding. Pick up a hand full and smell It.. It smells sweet like sugar cane, and horses, cows and all kinds of stock love It. The htuTes Would sometimes eat their shredded corn stalks In the racks be fore the corn in the trough. The -bred- ded corn was taken from la front of the machine and carried lo a press and packed Into balm. Now right here one or two things should be said about the packing Into bales. River corn aaa general thlag le very heavy and lakesa^long time to dry. so lung that some of the inner stalks of a shock never get thoroughly dry hy iheViinett la taken to the shredder. This corn when shredded and packed Into bales will get but and burn up and will not be of much use as feed. You can pick out such bales by simply lay ing your hand on Uiem .shredded corn should be thrown loosely »iatna barn er large abed tnd allowed to get tboraufbly dry and then packed Into bale*.
