Hoyt relatesthe experi ence of his father and other* of tbe past generation growing potatoes in wheat or oats straw inside of rail pens. The potatoes (whole) were first placed at the bottom of lhe pen. The straw was then fffrked nu to a depth of two or three feet. The plant* grew up through, the straw and produced quantities of the very best potatoes In the straw, from Whence they were gathered a* wanted by reaching in with the arm from all sides. I have heard of pota toes being grown in a similar manner in barrets station d about in the back yard and garden corners. I believe any family, in city or country, can in till* way, yet in this year 18fXi, produce paying quantities of Irish potatoes.
