This year about 880,000 of these trees are bearing and It is calculated that they wtll make 1,100 car loads of fruit, which will be .shipped from Fort Val ley during the six weeks season. Eleven fruit companies organized in Ohio have 8,298 acres planted in fruit trees la Uuustou County Ga. Last year the nurserymen sold 2,929,(8)3 tree*, getting |25 per 1,000, making $9,- 550 for the total. And the watermelon crop is also promising. Along the Tlant system of railroads the acreage foots up 10,409 acres, which will make about 9,000 carloads. Mr. Coquillet, of the Department of Entomology at Washington, who has been investiga ting the worm, which was reported to be eating the roots of the watermelon plants, has found it to be tho wire worm whii;h usually feeds on wood. He says it cannot cause any material deteriora tion in the plants, but finds that many vines are dying from a sort of blight, and no apparent cause of ihe disease can be found. Woman’s Writes.
