Hqward E. Bowman, aged 35, died on Monday morning- lie resided with his sister, Mrs. Gentry, iiis health has been failing since last summer, lie took fever while on the Pi R. and A. R. R. and came home in hopes he would recower his health, but continued to grow worse. He died with a g«»od hope of the future state. He bade each of the family good bye and quietly, with out a struggls passed away. Hal Editor Penile: Permit me to report the workings of one of the best schools of the county. Our school at Reedy Branch is again in session, and Prof. W. W. Mart has charge and it is el this school and what he hae dope for this neighborhood that 1 wish to write, lie commenced teach ing fer us about eight years ago, and has taught on an average about four months per year since, which would be thirty two months all told, about three years. Editor People: If you will allow me space f will be pleased to give a short sketch of one of the grandest and most enjoyable occa- sDns of the age : Ou last Saturday, the 1st day of this month, wasthe birch day of one of our most worthy and honored citizens. Ihc said gentleman is Mr. George VT. Goodson, (hat day being his 57th birth day. He Invited a great many of his friends to take supper with him, among them was the writer. While the writer has had considerable riperiencs in attending big dinners t d big suppers he musucouiesg that he net never witnessed such a grand and delightful supper in all his life. Everything, was in perfect order, if You will allow l will simply express that everything waa in apple pie order, and the most attractive part of all was that the cnilrs supper w aa composed of what Mr. Goodson had raised himself. He is what D called wow a days a model farmer, a man who lives at home aud hoards at the same place. He is a good example fer us all to follow. Among- the many friend* present were Mr. J.L. Bishop of Ehrhardt'sand his most kind wife, who f am always glad to meet. I am sure they will agree with me when I say that the sup per could not possibly have been ex celled. Huch results are brought about by the gradual building up of the fertility of the land by means of a systematic rotation of crops, in which peas and clover are grown between the sale crop*, sod veg etable matter added to the soil. F. MSSSRY. Blue Stone For Black Tongne. V few days since 1 was requested by a neighbor to see a sick cow, hoping that f might tell him what to do for her. I went and found the cow suffering terribly; it seemed to me to be confined to her tongue, which waa in a perpet ual motion, and was much-sayollen, so that she had not been able to swallow for about three days. The mouth seemed to be full of saliva, and was aa offensive as pntrid flesh. From an experience with black tongue long ago, I suggested a wash for her tOB^uo with a *ototlon of copperas. At we failed to get the copperas, we used bine stone, which probably was better. I had th* cow thrown down; her tongno drawn out and we^wah- bed with a solution of blue stonif -with Instruction* to repeat it the next day, which they did, aud to my surprise, the cow is getting well, and is able to eat what Is given her. I never saw a similar case, snd bay* no Idea of the cause, but I am satisfied that the solu tion of blue stone cured her, though it looked as if her tongue was rotten.—.1. Washington Watts, In.
