The County Democratic Executive Committee, according to Chairman Rice’s notice published to-day, is ,sum- raotiad to meet on 'the loth of-June to fix the time for holding primary elec tions to nominate candidates to fill the vacancies in our county’s delegation in the General Assembly. The primary elections will probably be held on the 11th and 18th days of July, second and third Saturdays, as it is understood that the .State election will be held the last week in July. Candidates can consider the campaign open and publish their cards as soon as they please, and may the best men win. - ; The Associational Academy. The committee in charge of the pre liminary work met on Monday. The official report of progress will he pub lished next week, but we are able to give the substance of the plans adopted. Ten acres of land and ten thousand dol lars will be needed for the location and buildings. Separate boarding houses are to be built for boys and girls, who are to recite together in the Academy building proper. The Academy Is to occupy a position between the Graded School and the College. Bids will be kept open until the first of October. In the mead’lime the committee w ill re ceive propositions and attend educa tional mass meetings, of which later notice will be given. , ^ Barnwell Graded School Entertain ment. ^ Preparations are being made by the teachers of the Graded School for an en tertainment to be-held in the Opera House Friday night, June 12th. The program will consist of Jean Ingelow’ls beautiful poem “The Songs Of Seven,” representing the seven periods in a wo man’s life, a Wand Drill,a motion song, instrumental music and chorusses by the scholar?. Capt. Croft, of Aiken, has been invited to present the diplomas to the graduating class. A good band discoursed excellent music, innocent amusements delighted the little folks and an abun dant dinner gratified every appetite. Miss Bessie Green was crowned CJneen of May. The Williston Social Pic Xic has come to stay. The Goose Pond Park Pic Xlc was the best and brightest of the long series given on the south side. The devotees of pleasure gathered by hundreds from far and near. Fair faces and graceful figures and handsome dresses adorned the breezy pavilion and sweet music kept time with the beatings of happy hearts and the play of merfy feet in the dance. They came to win money to pay fines expect ed tube imposed at the next sitting of the Chatham Court, but managed to borrow enough to pay railroad fare back to the Forest City. On Friday Judge Falligant Inter viewed four of the plucked Georgians. They pleaded guilty to previous gamb ling and three were sent to jail for six months each because they could noi pay the fine of $.**00 apiece. The fourth, a new hand, was fined only $260, w hich may be paid. Verily their chickens came home to roost. His consternation was ludicrous, and Miss Holman's ren dition was inimitable.” Masquerade Ball. A Masquerade Ball will be given at Masonic Hall, Barnwell, to-night week. The Pic-Nic Pistol. On Saturday at a colored people’s pic nie at Zorn’s mill in the Western part of Barnwell Township Dallas Gloster was shot by Henry Hall. The ball en tered the abdomen inflicting a serious wound. Gloster was brought to Barn well and Dr. R. C. Kirkland, Jr., called in. He was unable to locate the ball but the patient it getting along hope fully. lie is a colored citizen of good character and owns considerable prop erty. The ice cream festival In the Town Hall givetfby the ladiesof the Woman’ Missionary Society on Wednesday night last w as quite a success. Our sporting young .men met with poor success on the Edisto last week. They spent nearly the w hole week at the end of the pole and came home al most empty handed. The leader of the party, Sarg. Stansell, says the moon was not right, and though considerably cast down lie.ts not discouraged and is de termined to show w hat he can do in the way of fishing this week. He has his party reinforced by two of Georgia’s experts, Mr. C. B.Stansell and Mr. Jno. Sanders from Atlanta. They leave to- d,y for - 8 ^ mile to catch if. We have one of the handsomest depots on the S. C. Railway, hut would like a little more light, (we mean lamp light) as ladies have to wait for night trains in a dark depot. Col. F. M.
