The South Bound.
J.abor equal to 2,000 men is at work
on the South Bound from the Savannah
River to Columbia. Contractor Oliver
began laying rails at Campbellton last
w'eek. As most of the grading from
that point Southward is done it is ex
pected to have trains running from
Fairfax^ whu-Ti is to be the new name
for Campbellton, to Savannah by the
first June, if high water does not delay
the completion of the river bridge.

A law passed at the last session of
Congress makes it a mrSdemeanor, pun
ishable by a fine of $100, to deface gold
And silver coins for the purpose of mak
ing jewelry out of them. The law is
aimed at the defacing of coins for mak
ing bangles, cuff' buttons and similar
articles of jewelry.
In order to give all his time to the
building of the Carolina Midland Col.
Mike Brown has resigned the Presiden
cy of the Seaboard Construction Com
pany, of Savannah, which was organ
ized w itb a capital of $300,000, being in-
erfased to half a million, to build the
Middle Georgia and Atlantic Railway.
” The entertainment in the Opera
House Friday evening was a double
success. The amateurs covered them
selves with glory and the audience had
a few hours of perfect enjoyfnent. The
beautiful quilt voted to the most popu
lar baby was won by Master Mike
Brown, Jr. Eight hundred and tifty-
one 10 cent votes were polled in tlie
elect’oh. The proceeds of over a hun
dred dollars will be expended in im-
.provements on Seven Pines Church.
The town council of Blackville fia*
given the right of way to the track that
is to join the B. A. $ N. and Barnwell
Railroads and niake them the Carolina
Midland. It will run from the Barn
well turn table between the residences

Millan, connecting with the B. A. & N.
north of town. ^-The depot will be on
Pascallis Street. The citizens of Black
ville have contributed very liberally to
ward the fund to pay for the private
property that the C. M. wilkneed. Thejr
subscriptions are about S3,000 to date.

Medical Meeting.
The quarterly meeting of the County
Medical Association was held in Barn
well on Tuesday. Eighteen me.inbpr*
were present, being the best attendance
yet reached. Good health was reported
as universal throughout the County,
and the doctors are all enjoying their
welcome rest.
Dr. Morrall, vice-president, presided.
Essays were read on subjects announced
at the previous meeting. Drs. L. C.
Stephens, Martin Bellinger and Geo.
W. Morrall were elected for recommen
dation to the Governor for appointment
as Medical Examiners to pass upon the.
diplomas of graduates iu medicine.
Resolutions#!' sorrow for the death of
Dr. H. W. Kearse, the late Fresident of
the Association, were presented by Dr.
N. F. Kirkland, Sr., and adopted.
