With a total of 47 entries In the four events of the Trials, horses from Camden, Aiken, Columbia aa< other parts of tbs surround ins country competed for top honors as working huntars during the after noon of clear, sonny weather. According to the usual proceed ure In the Camden Hunter Trials, the Judges called the horses out in pairs in all three events except the Hunt Teams. After the fourth fence the two horses reversed po- * sltions, popped the next two fen ces and then resumed s hunting pace over the last four fences of the course. ,>, Among those ^horses who took top honors with outstanding per formances was Mrs. William O. Wood’s Candy, who won the Light weight Hunters Event, and who, it will be remembered, came over to Camden from Aiken four years ago to win Champion Hunter in the 1946 Camden Horse Show. The winner of the Children's Hunter’s Event was Comanche, owned and ridden by Neil Bates of Wateree, who has figured in many of the Camden Junior Horse Shows. Among the outstanding perform ers also wm Hippolytus, owned by Mr. Alvin Untermeyer of New York. Taken off the track after ft year of racing, Hippolytus bos been turned into a first rate hunter by Burling Cocks who rods him on Saturday to win the Middle and Heavyweight Hunters, sad to take first place again with the three horses of the winning Hunt Team of the Trials. The Trials were Judged by Mr. Joseph F. Flanagan and Mr. James Park of Monkton, Md. The trophies for the four events were donated by Mr. Harry D. Kirkover. Mrs. Thomas M Waller, Mrs. H. Grang er Gaither, Mrs. C. P. DuBose, Jr, M.' F H and Mrs. Dwight Part ridge. and Mrs. David R. Williams. Commander W. Shannon Heath was In charge of the Hunter Trials Committee. Given under the auspices of the Camden Hunt of which Mrs. C. P. DuBose, Jr., Is M.F.H., this was the first time that the trials have been held since before the war. As shown by the enthusiasm of the large gallery as well as the many entries and many top perform ances, the renewal of this sporting event was as successful and out standing as the best of its kind of the prewar years.
