The American Legion Auxiliary
of the James Leroy Belk Post,
No. 17, met at the home of Mrs.
Wm. L. Goodale, Greene street,
on Friday afternoon, Jan. 13 at
4 o'clock with 40 members pres
ent.
The meeting was presided over
by the Auxiliary president, Mrs.
C. C. Jackson. Guest speaker for
the afternoon was Attorney Har
old W. Funderburk, who spoke on
national defense and defense
problems, which was most ap
propriate as all civic organiza
tions and clubs observed National
Defense Week from Jan. 8-14.

chairman, delicious refreshments
were served by the hostesses, Mrs.
Goodale, Mrs. W. L. Jackson, Mrs.
Austin Sheheen, Mrs. George
Creed, Mrs. D. J. Creed, Mrs.

were awarded Mrs. Cleve E. God
win. Mrs. Gordan Watson of Bieh-
opville and Margaret Cox. Bingo
was also played and many prizes
given.
A bridal green and white color
scheme was carried out in the
house decorations and on the re
freshment table in the dining
room. Bowls of small white flow
ers were used on the four cor
ners of the table and a punch
bowl banked with greenery and
cut flowers graced the center of
the table. Mrs. Hoyt Owens pre
sided at the punch bowl Punch
sandwiches, iced Cakes, salted nut*
and mints were served. Later in
the evening Mrs. Parker was pre
sented a shower of miscellaneous
gifts brought by the following
