Simply because we sit back on the “stool of do-nothing" and let one small group tear down in a couple of weeks the good character and reputation it took years of hard work to build. The reasons stated above are very few compared to the many there are in Shis esse as to why this “enjoyable little-boy’s game” should not continue. Not only are the school and stu dents losing face but the town as well. Wouldn’t It be tragic in a couple «f years to hear Camden “sports town of the south” being called “that place where a bunch of high school kids started shoot ing firecrackers like ’Injuns on the warpath?” It most certainly would be tragic! And If there is any spunk in the ones concerned in this matter, they will forget about their bang-bang toys and settle down to hanS work. God has given ns a whole new year to add onto our life—to multi ply our dreams in—to do all the things we didn’t do last year. Don’t let this Incident become mas ter of us! Funny? Only Thursday and Friday of last week the hon orable ones were measured tori their gowns. We found some tall, “new-look” girls in the senior class —ranging in heights from. 5 ft 10 in. to' f ft. 1 in. The chic tall ones are Barbara Hall, -Maxine Bailey, Harriet Moore and Ann Zemp. Nice to have to b# looked up to—isn’t it? Pretty soon they, along with the rest of the seniors, will be ordering invitations and then- well, lets stop dreaming for awhile! Mrs. Sallie Watkins, who cele brated a birthday on Dec. 23, was honored with a supper by her daughter, Mrs. Lee Parker. Most of her children, their families and paveral invited guests ware pres ent to enioy this happy occasion. “Happy Birthday ” was sung and Mrs. Watkins received many pretty and useful gifts and every one wished her many happy re turns of the day. Mr. and Mrs. James West and The basketball season of 1950 looks to be a fairly promising one for the girls’ and boys’ teams here st the High school The girls, un der Pop Small’s coaching, hare lost one out of 12 games played and that was a practice game. Last Tuesday Pop’s girls came but on top with a big score of 4S-24 against Kershaw. The Camden boys defeated Kershaw 44-41. Cam den kept a nice 10 point lead moat of the way through the game but In the last few playing minutes, Kershaw shortened that. lead to only three points, making a very exciting ending for the boys’ game. . On Thursday and Friday the Camden teams travel to B. C. and Olympia in two doubleheader games. The next home game is with Wlnnsboro on Tuesday, Jan. IT, so be there pulling for the Marigolds and Bulldogs.
