Riegger; “Jingle Bells, arranged by Ray Charles, and the “Halle lujah Chorus,** from ' George Friederich Handel’s “The Mes siah.” Social Security Tax Rate Increase is Effective Jan. 1 Effective Jan. 1, 1950, the tax rates under the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (Social Securi ty) will be Increased to 1 1-2 per cent on the wages paid by an em ployer and 1 1-2 per cent on the wages received by employees. The present rates are 1 per cent each. The increase will take effect .on th« first payment of wages in 1950, regardless of whether such wages were earned in 1949. Ac cordingly, bonuses and other re- numeration paid in I960 will be ■abject to the new tsx rates even though they were earned in 1949.
