S. rate in 1948 was 67.1 deaths per 100,000 population, as compared to a world-wide post war average death rate of 48.9, according to die 1949 edition or “Accident Facts," statistical yearbook of die Nation Safety (Only three countries topped the ccidental death rate of the U. S. -Iceland, Egypt and Austria. Those countries had rates of 715, 83.8 and 8St9 respectively in 1948.
