News Of Week From Town Of Beftane Community Rocvootiofi Program Launched At Moot ing Hold Monday Afternoon—Roily Ooy Pro gram Is Hold At Presbyterian Church A meeting to launch the community recreation pro gram was held Monday afternoon at 5 p. m. Mrs. D. M. Mays, chairman of the Bethune recreation committee, presided and led a discussion of the duties of the 28 block leaders «who are the contacts to the entire community* The captains over the block leaders are the ministers. Rev. W. L. Newman, Rev. E. L. Davidson, Rev. J. B. Stokes and Mrs. Wilson Smith. The day time program will in clude a morning kindergarten class from 8 to 12. The afternoon play period for all ages from 2-5 o’clock and library hours every Tuesday and Friday, 4-6. The evenings will be reserved for reg ular meetings and social gather ings of the community organiza tions. The library will be open on Thursday nights from 7-9. More than 100 members of the Youth Adult Fellowship of Beth el district were guests of the local YAF at the Methodist church Thursday. After the devotional and theme discussion, the group retired to the Community Center where a social hour was enjoyed. At Youth Rally Thirteen young boys and girls from here attended the Presby terian Youth Rally at First Church, Columbia, Sunday after noon and evening. Rev. W. L. Newman gave the address of the evening. Rev. Newman, Mrs. Newman and R. E. McCaskill ac companied them to Columbia. Young Methodists Meet The young adult group of Sum ter district of the Methodist church held their regular month ly meeting in Bethune at the recreation center Thursday even ing. About 75 were present to en joy the inspirational services, the eats and the wholesome fun. Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Hughes of Pine Grove, Pa., were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene nuckabee. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes are enroute to Augusta, Ga., to visit their son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hughes. •' ♦ Mr. Ragland, superintendent of the Saconey Plant, Mrs. Ragland and son spent the weekend at Chimney Rock, N. C. Rally Day Program The regular Sunday School hour was taken up with the Rally Day program at the Presbyterian . Mays home. T. B. Barnes, Jr., a native of Bethune, was married Saturday 24th to Margaret Mary Petrosky in the Shrine of the Sacred Heart, Washington, D. C. Mrs. J. N. McLaurin received a message Thursday from her son, John Neil McLaurin, and Mrs. McLaurin, in Augusta, Ga., of the arrival of a daughter. The Mc- Laurins have two other daughters, Carolyn and Martha Irwin. Mr. and Mrs. M. G. King at tended the funeral of Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Gregg King’s mother, in In man Friday. Walter Holzer returned Satur day from a visit to Atlantic City. Mrs. Eva Morgan spent the weekend in Bishopville with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Van Morgan. Next Sunday morning at the Presbyterian church World Com munion Sunday will be observed. Special Church Services Rev. C. E. Jones of Conway is conducting a series of evening ser vices at the Methodist church. These services began Sunday morning and will close Friday evening. Mfs. Louise Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Henry King visited relatives in Mayesville Sunday. Miss Lottie McSween of Dar lington is visiting her sister, Mrs. Clara Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Lane at tended the dedication services of the Masonic Temple in Columbia Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Lane and L. D. Barr were in Aiken Friday at tending the Shrine meeting. Mr. Barr had part on the program. Mrs. Young Allen and children of Durham, ‘N. C., are spending some time with her father, L. J. Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Plum mer of Lynchburg were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sid Wat kins. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Walling of Cayce were recent guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Z. P. Gor don. Mrs. Emmie Black of Canton, N. C., is with her sister, Mrs. Maud Copeland, who is critically ill in Camden hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Manning Parker visited relatives in Lvnchburg Sunday. Mrs. Pearl King has returned from a visit to her daughter and family. Mr. and Mrs. James Brice Waters in Rodman. Mrs. Tom Ed Hearon and son, Tommy, were weekend guests of her mother, Mrs. S. Jordan in Richburg. Mr. Hearon spent Sun day in Richburg and was accom panied home by Mrs. Hearon and Tommy Sunday evening.
