waves, television waves travel in
a straight line. The further a re
ceiving set is from the station the
higher the antenna must be be
cause of the circiture of the earth.
. Some television waves crash
into high obstacles, such as moun
tains and are reflected.

Wayside Park was the scene of
a picnic and weiner roast on last
Thursday evening when Mr. and
Mrs. Lewis Lee Clybum enter
tained in honor of their daughter,
Anne, whose 11th birthday oc
curred on that date.
The 15 friends and schoolmates
were taken to the Park in a
truck filled with hay and fol
lowing supper, which was served
on long tables, the young guests
danced to the recordings of a Vic-
trola.
Among those enjoying this de

List Polio Case
In Kershaw County
Announcement that The Chron
icle will become a semi-wekely
around the first of September was
received with pleasure in Camden
and Kershaw county last week.
Many expressed their apprecia
tion of the fact tha\ the paper
was to be issued twice each week
instead of weekly as at present.
A great many have taken ad
vantage of the offer to accept re
newals at the present subscription
? rice of $2.50 a year until Sept.
when the price will become
$3.50 a year. A limit of two years
has been placed on the length of
time subscriptions can be taken
for now.

Passenger Depot
Being Tom Down

The Southern Railway has be
gun demolition work on the old
passenger depot on East DeKalb
street City Council some time
back gave its permission for this
to be done.-A passenger shed will
be erected to take care of pas
sengers.
The depot was built in 1909 and
was in a rather sad state of re
pair. Passenger business on the
road has been almost nil for sev
eral years.

Three new cases of poliomyelitis
were found in South Carolina dur
ing the week ended June 25, the
state health department reported
today.
Victims of polio were hospital
ized in Charleston, Florence and
Kershaw counties. So far this year
23 polio cases have been recorded
in the state.
The department reported a not
able absence of malaria In the
state. No new cases were reported
during the week, compared to 162
case* found during the same week
of last year. Only 77 cases of ma
laria are on record so far this year.
Measles, however, showed a far
greater Incidence than a year ago.
with 255 cases reported during the
week to bring the yearly total to
8,617 cases.
Other diseases were running
about the same level as last year,
the weekly report showed.
