Fate Died Saturday Vernon Mallory Pate, 78. of the Marshall church community of Lee connty, died at the Camden hos pital on Saturday. Funeral serricea were held at the Marshall Methodist church Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock, conducted by the Rer. S, R. /Ellington. In terment was In the church ceme tery. Mr. Pate iris for SO years sup erintendent of the Marshall church Sunday school and the church was very dear to his heart. He was also a steward of the church. He la surrired by his widow, Mrs. Anna Blyther Pate; four sons. Vomon L., Robert D., Roy and Clyde; three dauirhters, Mrs. Wm. S. Lee, Mrs. Oarrlce Handock and Mrs. L. Broad St. Have New Hope For Progress In Fight On Polio New hope for progress in the fight against infantile paralysis was expressed today by Arthur Stokes, local chapter chairman of the National Foundation for Infan tile Paralysis, in revealing plans for the First International Polio myelitis conference in New York this summer. Mr. Stokes said preminiary an nouncement bulletlna and. invita tions were being sent to local phy sicians and other (fualtfied scion- tific and professional persons who may wish to hear leading authori ties from airparts of the world pool their informatiop on infantile paralysis. The conference is being spon sored by the National Foundation as part of its search for a cure, preventive and more advanced treatment method of infantile paralysia, the local chlarman said. It will be held in the Waldorf-As toria hotel In New York City July 12 to 17. Mr. ,StokM said National Founda- tlbn headquarters had infprmed j him^ that'official government rep resentatives from'mord trren 60 na tions had been invited to present summaries of poliomyelitis prob lems in their countries. In addition, he added,■ more than 200 other med-cal authorities will participate In the program. Asserting it was the local chap ter’s hope that msiny qualified pro fessionals from tliis area would at tend the conference, Mr. Stokes’ said the session' would serve as a means of collecting and distrlbut- Two Large Real Estate Transfers Two large real estate transfers were recorded in the Kershaw coun ty court house last Thursday. One Involved the transfer of 2,- 871 acres in Flat Rock township, known as The ^ Rock, Kirkland Place and Buckley Place, to the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Com pany by S. Itley Wilson, J. H. Ryan and E. B. Boyle, for $43,065. The other was the transfer of 763 acres from J. H. Ryan and S. Itley Wilson to the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company for |15,- 260.
