The stadium looked much better than a- year ago but there still remains a lot to be done to make it comparable with the better ones about the state. The lighting leaves much to be desired while the seating accommodations are just a few degrees above zero. The field is just about tops. » _____ The high school band .and the natty group of cheer leaders added greatly to the, color of the evening show. The band, under the direction of Hal Middleton, looked smart, played smart and marched smart. SPORTS Since returning^ to my desk fcere In the Chronicle office last Thurs day night, I’ye heard nothing by a parade of cuss words anent the baseball debacle featured in the final game of the series between the Camden and Florence teams. All that I can offer in the line of rerblagy is that I’m mighty glad I was up in Clhcago at the time for I sure would have blown my lop. The one thing that really pleased me was the intense enthusiasm re portedly eihlblted by the fans. That really bodes well for next year. Had a fine vacation In the mid west. Saw plenty of pro-football, .also some nice major league hase- ball. But as I have said to so many I of the faithful, the biggest thrill I had was in watching some of the football and baseball games via the television set. . It Is really something to talk about. Keep your eye on the Olympia Red Devils this football season. The Columbia outfit demonstrated class in downing Lancaster 31 to <5 last week. An overflow crowd of .5,000 saw Jeff coat stage several long runs and score three touch downs. In the second half and with 0 32 to 0 lead the Olympias called on the second stringers to carry on. Anna Drennan Scott Now Making Ifer Home In Camden Brasington-Ellison Wedding Plans The cheerleaders were in the traditional white, *.vith yellow and black trim. Each maiden wore a corsage feat uring a big gulden mum tied with a black ribbon, a gift of the Camden Floral company. The members of the cheer ing group are, Billie Lee Smith, chief; Molly Ogbum, AUce Wilson, Betty Nell Rowers, Rosalie Shebeen, Wyrian Ross and Dolly Beard. That band—WOW! We watched Doc Richards, Prof. Baldwin and some of the high school pedagogues and noted the pleased expression on their faces as Hal Middle ton's classy aggregation took the field between halves. We mentioned to Dick that Camden has a lot to be thankful for, ie—^the best band director, best band, best coach and from where we sit right now, one of the best teams in the state. What more can a human ask. Well folks, let's all go over to Sumter tonight and see the Bulldogs ruffle the feathers of those Gamecocks. FOR SALE 1941 Ford Truck P/4-ton Short Body.
