It was -the third straight defeat for the Chiefs in league competi tion and they are Just a round above the BlahopvilJ^e team, which holds undisputed title to the cel lar in the league standings. For eight rounds the game un corked thrill after thrill, : with double plays pulling the visitors out of the mud at critical stagea Joe Blalock, the lanky southpaw, making his first league start, was lacked for six blows over the nine inning route. Conley Alexander, of the Gamecock club, was touched for a similar number, but his de fense was tight, so much so, that only one CHilof reached third base during the evening. It looked like an extra inning fracas the way the struggle was unfolding before a crowd of some thousand pop-eyed fans, but thb break came in the first of the ninth.
