Sunday was Mother's Day—A day set aside in which we do honor to the mothers of our land. We paid tribute to that wonderful love, selfishness, pat ience, courage and sacrifices you made for us. We can never forget the little things you. Mother of mine, did for us. No other love was as genuine as yours. No one ever 'had the understanding you had. Your patience was exhaustless. The tragedy is that so many of us forget so easily We neglect so easily. In the dear sweet memories of my boyhood, I can see that mother of mine sitting in her rocking chair and softly singing: “Backward, turn backward, oh time in your flight, “Make me a child again just for tonight. “Mother, come back from that echoless shore, “Take me to your arms again, just as of yore." I often think back and feel that you. My Mother, was thinking of ydur own sainted mother, just as I am now thinking of you. Dear Heart. THEY DID A MAJOR JOB In a commendatory editorial last week the Chronicle paid tribute to the untiring and patriotic performance of members of the two selective service boards in Kershaw county, also to Uie peraonnel. We learn that there are others w<ho were identi fied with the selective service program who are de serving of the highest praise. For instance: the local exfimining physicians who were Dr. Carl West, Dr. George S. Rhame, Dr. Alva W. Humphries, Dr. J. P. Pickett and Dr. J. H. Thomas. Also William Lambert DePass, who was the appeal agent for the local board 46 and Allen M. Murchison, appeal agent for local board 47. * In~addition it is only fitting that recognition for a faithful work well done be given to the Kershaw county health department, under supervision of Dr. A. W. Humphries, who gave all blood tests of regis trants, and to J. Team Gettys, chairman of the ad visory board of the county. Miss Betty Jane Mc Casklll, spent Mother’s Day with Mr. and Mrs. Louie Smith and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Stanton and sons, Dick and Roddy, spent the weekend in Saluda with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. ' Corley and family. Ben Stokes celebrated his il4th birthday Sunday. All of his children and some of his grandchildren were present for the occasion. Rev. Mur ry of Bethune was also a guest of the day. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Cnglo of Lancaster spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Mc Laughlin. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Brannon and son, Jimmie of Rock Hill, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr and Mrs. J, El Brannon and Mr. and Mrs, Hasel Horton. Mrs. Rupert Oodsball and son. Ronnie of Columbia, spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Walters. Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Walters were also guests of his parents for Mother’s Day Mr. and Mrs. John Buchan of Columbia were at home for the weekend. Mrs. M. S. Rosier accompanied Mrs. Mattie R. West of Columbia to Winnsboro Saturday to attend a meeting of all district chairmen of Congaree Presbytery. Mrs. West is the newly appointed chairman of District No. 1. The meeting was held at the home of the president; Mrs. Earl Tomer. After the morn ing session a delicious luncheon was served by the hostess, assist ed by Mrs. Rosier.
