The Km-shaw county singing con vention met'with Beaver Dam Bap tist church Sunday afternoon. There were duets, quartets, solos and group singing from a number of churches. Mrs. C. B. Mitchell of Bethune is teaching the first grade at Midway while Miss Margaret Cox is re cuperating from an appendix ope ration. Miss Janie Margaret Granger gave a party for the young folks of her group last Friday nighL Afli^ numerous games, refresh ments were served. The Home Demonstration club met with Mrs. Emmie Marshall last Tuesday. There were nine mem bers present. Miss Leonard, the aaslstant worker, had charge of the meeting. She demonstrated work with poultry. Mrs. Marshall served iced tea and cookies after the meet ing. Miss Wolhemena Gardner gave a Halloween party last Ibursday night at her home. She served fruit and nuts. Mr. and Mrs. John Buchan and their little son. Johnnie, spent the weekend in Pine Bluff with their relatives. Mrs. Steve Bowers spent Sunday in Columbia with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Beckham. Misses Gretchel and Rita Starnes of Charlotte, N. C., have been visit ing their father, Mr, Stamea, here Mrs. Delma McLaughlin and in fant baby returned to their home last Thursday from the Camden hospital. Mrs. Roberta Bowers and Mrs. Cecil Bowers spent Tuesday with relatives in Camden. Miss Alice Kerr of Camden spent last Friday with Miss Betty Jane McCaskill. A special home mission program of the Auxiliary of Pine Tree church will meet with Mrs. A. A. West Thursday night The offering will go for home missions . Mrs. J. R. Sr., of Dillon came home Saturday. She was call ed to Chester due to the sudden death of her uncle, John McGarity, whose funeral was held at Purity Presbyterian church Sunday after noon at 8 o’clock. The many friends of J. E. Bran non will be sorry to know of his serious illness. Mr. Brannon has >een in declining health for the past several years. Rev. Mr. Hunnicut of Hartsville who has resigned his pastorate here n the Baptist church to accept work at Kannapolis, N. C., preached his farewell sermon here last Sun day afternoon. Mr. Hunnicut has made many friends while serving this church who regret his work lere has ended. We all wish him great success in his new field of work. Miss Grace Faulkenberry ap peared last week in the Columbia Town theater’s production, “Out of the Frying Pan,’’ which had a very successful run. Miss Faulkenberry is the only daughter of Mrs. Blanche F. Watkins who lived here until recently. She attended Mid way school a few years ago. She attended Coker college, making hi|^ honors there as a freshman. She later attended Lander college. Her many friends here congratu late her in the part she played in this play. Mrs. W; L. Young spent a few days with her sister. Mrs. Jees# Sowell, who is ill at her home near Kershaw. Mlsa Louise Chatham of Sumter will become the bride of Carl Catoe, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Catoe, at 6:30 Saturday afternoon, October 26, at Grace Baptist church, Sum ter, 8. C. Ralph Young was a visitor at Winthrop college Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. C. L.
