Thia will probably be aad newt to the tan following here. It also ahonld be a rabbit panch to the treaaary department of the high ichooP football financiers, for any game would mean at least a thousand smackers for the pot. And Judgtaig by the pressing n^ for widespread improTements at the football pasture, those thousand betiies would come In ml^ty handy. Local enthusiasts are won- dbrlng Just what kind of a licking Blshoprille will band out to North Charleston. The two scalpers Jumped out of the car and fled up the street with roaring motorcycles;, racing after them. Cops wildly wared rerolrers and a big time was had by all; in cluding yours truly wbo couldn’t resist calling up the press dad tell Ing them what a ducky time he was haring watching the bluecoats chase the scalping gentry—and we don't mean Indians. Next time they’ll be wise and listen to the radio report. >* Mob rule prevailed in the stadium in Columbia, some five thousand fans crashing the gates and getting Into' the grounds fee free. Thon< sands Jammed the side lines and obscured the view of spectators who had paid good money for their grandstand and bleacher seats. Even Odvemor Wilson, Secretary of State Byrnes and other notables were blacked out by the crowd along the side lines. The Camden Bulldogs will be out Jo get all square with the board when they Invade Darlington. to night for a game srith the Darling ton Highs. The 8 to 0 defeat meted out to the Bulldogs on a soggy water-soak ed field at Chester last Friday night put the season's record at 3 wins and 4 defeats. It rained in torrents for the first two periods and diissled through' out the remainder of the second half in the Chester ' Neither side scored In the first and third periods. Soon after the opmiing of the sec ond quarter, after several end runs and line plunges. Holt, Chester’s left halfbsck, made a IS-yard run to the 6-yard lln eand LukenhMmer, fullback, carried the ball over for Chester’s first touchdown. The kick for extra point was no good. Ches ter 8, Camden 0. In the early part of the fourth quarter M. Campbell, Chester's left tackle, blocked a Camddn punt and Moore, Chester’s left end, recovered the ball and made a safety, giving the Red Cyclones 3 points The Camden fans believe that the 600 percentage will be established by a defeat of Darlington, which will make the game on Friday, No vember 16, at Zemp field with caster 'a sort of ’’rubber’’ affair. Tom McConnell of Lancaster was coach of the year in Palihetto state high circles in 1946 when he was at Brookland<Cayce, and any team he coaches can^ be regarded with respect. The Chester Cyclones proved bet ter mudders than the Camden Boll- dogs ahd won, 8 to 0, ^in a game that was played in a pouring rain and on a fMd ankle deep with water. A small group ci Camden fans braved the storm to motor to Ches ter and were repaid by having to fork over $1.16 per to walk several blocks through rutty water-covered fair grounds into an. equally damp grid arena, and then sit on un covered Mauds to watch a game that should never hijv8 been played. Over in Spartanburg where physi cal conditions trwe a great im^ve- ment over the pastnre-land layout at Chester, the game between Eas ley and Spartanburg Higdu was called off because of the rain and was played on Monday night. The game was Just about the last word in a convulsive mess. Rain obliterated the yard lines and at timeii^ the spectators were unable to see the aetloa on the fMd because of the heavy downpour. Officials had to accept the word of the home lads as to where the yard .lines were and we strongly suspect that the locations were destgnated in a manner to favor the home team. The game was rough, with Cam den taking the brunt of the sav agery. The weights of the compet ing players were at a wide variance Chester had a galaxy of huskies who were able to wallow through the muck. Camden’s lighter person nel skidded and slipped. Fumbles cost Camden the .game, for Chester capitalised on these miscues when within a few yards of the Gaaaden goal That the Cy clones did not run up more scores reflected favorably upon the stnb- Carolina definitely demonstrated that it had it over Clemsoit like a tent. The Tigers showed fight only In the third period when they scored two quick touchdowns and took a third period lead of 14 to 18. Camden is assured of a full- rounded football program in 1947 and in the years followingt^ This means that plans are now shaping up for the nnlformlng and equipping of a *’B’’ team, which will act at a feeder unit to the famous Bulldog outfit from year to year. It will also serve to provide football menu for the fans every week from the middle of Septem ber, through October and Novem ber, the Juniors staging games on the Friday nights that the Bulldogs are on invasion trips. The high school athletic group is working on plans that will provide for a Junior organisation. An agita tion for a Junior group thjs year was frowned upou for the reason that the necesaary equipment was not svsUable and school authorities declined to endorse any program that might present a hasard to the. young athletes. These hazards are eliminated when the players are suitably protected by padded uni forms. Another matter that will receive the attention of the athletic group before next season rolls around will be the rebuilding of the stadium fence, new ticket booths and new bleacher seats. Supt J, G. Richards. Jr., declared that if material for this repair and remodeling work is available next spring the Job will be started early in the summer.
