C. Rochester extension farm management specialist, from ths 1245 census of agricnlture, says W. C. Me- Csrley, county agent. Despite an increase of S.I per cent in the total acreage of farm land, the t»barp increase In the number of farms resulted in s decrease of 0 per, cent In the average sise of farm. The aver, age size of farm decreased from 117.9 seres in 1740 to 110.1 acres in 1245. The total acreage of cropland har vested decreased 11 per cent. During the five-year period, sig nificant changes occurred In the acreages and production of important crops. The acreage of oats Increased 32 per cent. The average of lespedeza cut for hay increased 508 per cent, while the careage of les- pedtza harvested for seed increases 300 per cent. ' The acreage of wheat increased 36 per cent, while the total production of wheat increased 63 per cent. The greater proportionate increase in the total production of wheat over the in crease in wheat acreage resulted from an increase of 2 bushels In the per- acre yield. The acreage of cotton harvested de creased 16 per cent, from 29,272 acres In 1939 to 25.308 acres in 1944. The total production of cotton decreased 7.6 per cent during this period.' The smaller proportionate decrease In the total production of cotton from the decrease in cotton acreage resulted from an increase of 29 pounds In the per-acre yield. Significant changes also occurred in the numbers of certain clasaee of livestock and poultry. The total num ber of cattle and calves Increased 57 per cent. LaMaster, head of Clemson’a dairy department. The morning sessions are to be de voted to 45-miDute lectures followed by 15 minute discussion periods on each topic. Demonstrations of im proved dairy methods, feed produc tion, and building materials are sched uled for the afternoons. There will be aniple time for pictures, lectures; and friendly visiting during the even ings. No tuition or registration fee will be charged. Rooms In the college dormi tories will be available the nights of July 22, 23 and 24 at 50 cents for the entire short course period. Occupants famish their own sheets, pillows, pil low cases and towels. Meals in the college meas hall will cost 50 cents for breakfast, 66 ctnts for lunch and 65 cepts for supper. Men, women nad young people over 18 years of age can be accommodated. Those planning to attend are request ed to notify the dairy department, Clemson, 8. C., at an early date.
