He arranged f<x regular religious feasts or fes tivals which brought the people to gether to worship Him. One can srell imagine the deli^t- ful fellowship as friends, acquainV ances and especially relatives from various places went up to the feast together. The obvious lesson for us is that we vdio know Christ and have peace and liberty in Him should enjoy our Christian anniversaries to tte fun hi a manner wen-^leashig to Him. We need such occasions to renew our faith, to quideen our Joy, and tp cause us to remember G^'s grade and His blessings. The first of the assigned Scrip ture passages does not directly re late to the feasts of God’s people but rather speaks of: 1. The Holiness ef the Lord (Lev. 20:7, 8). God is holy and His people in tiieir earthly walk are to ^w that they have been sanctified by Him. This involve^ a separation from worldly practices and an eagerness to the win of God. Keeping the statute^ of God should be the delight of His people, not a burden or a trjal. There is real liberty in conformity to law. Holiness makes for freedom and fruitfulness. Now we tuigi to the consideration of the feasts of tire Lord. In select ing the verses, twd of the feasts were omitted, so we shall include Leviticus ^:3, 9-12 with the others assigned. n. The Feasts of the Lord (Lev. 23:34, 9-12, 15, 16, 24, 27, 28, 34, 3944). This is one of the great chapters of the book of Leviticus, presenting both practical and proi^tic teaob- ing. The holy “feasts” and the “set times” of Inael (which we shall consider under the one heading of “feasts”) were for their qriritual instruction and edification, Imt they also reveal God’s proidwtic purpose for both Israel and ^ Church. 1. The Sabbath (v. 3). This is not strictly considered one of tiie feasts hut a set time—a holy ctmvoea- tion to be held after stz days of la- bw. It is the type of Jfae rest tirat God has in mind for His petals. (See Heb. 4:1-11.) A word of admonition is in order regarding America’s awful disre spect for and nrisuse of our day of rest—the Lord’s day. Is it not time we did something about the desecration of Sunday? 2. The Passover and the Unleav- ttied Bread (w. 4-fi). These could be considered separately but they are closely relat^. ' The Passover spoke of ^ Lamb of Gkxi who was to shed His blood on the cross, even as it pointed ba<^ to redemption by blood on that da^ night in Egypt (Ezod. 12:12, 13). The unleavened bread q;>eaks of hoUness. This is not the result of “servile work” (v. 8), but a show- ing fortiL of faith in tito offering by fire. 8. The nrstfruits (w. 9-12). Just as tilt one sheaf was waved before the Lord as tl^ earnest of the har vest, so Christ in His rasurreotion is the firstfruits of them tiiat sleep in the grave. (See I Cor. 16:2I>41.); Note that it was waved “on tiie morrow after the Sabbatti** (v. 11> which is the resurrection morning-.* our Sunday, What a biassed thou^t 4. Pentecost (w. 15, 16). infty days after the feast of firstfruits came a new meal offering; two. wave k>aves are presented before the Lord. Trumpets (v. 24). This looks forward to the day arhen Qod ihall call His people Israel in the latter days, will bring them togetiif er for the great day of .6. Atonement (w. 27, 28). On tiiat day Christ shall take away the stai of His people (Zech. 12:1), and they shall be prepared fof the crowning and Joyous, feast of 7. ^bemaeles (w. 24,19-44).
