' Planning for Popcorn
Popcorn will average around 1,000
pounds to the acre but with favora
ble conditions much larger yields
than that may be produced. The
amount of seed to plant to the acre
is from five to seven pounds, al
though this will vary with the size
of the seed and the rate of plant
ing. The rows, especially for the
smaller varieties, should be some
what closer together than for field
corn. Special plates for planting
popcorn can be obtained from mosi
planter manufacturers. Two varie
ties of popcorn that seem to be most
In favor with confectioners are the
Australian hulless and the large yel
low. Practically all popcorn is sold
shelled.

ordinary paint on the surfaces to
which it is applied has long been
established, recent research in the
luminous paint field haff given rise to
the hope that if the walls o/ a room
are painted with fluoi;escent paint,
the ultra-violet light that is neces
sary for activation will be a potent
destroyer of germs, not only on the
surface of the walls, but also in the
air of the room. From the lighting
standpoint, it is estimated that when
the paint is activated by ultra-violet,
the light given off will be three
times more eflertive than filament
fighting.
