This rule has caused considerable confusion since it was announced last spring and will no doubt be cause of much more before the coming football season is over. In order to allow 12tb grade boys to play, the rule states that high school students who are eligible otherwise may play football until they receive a diploma on the 12th grade basis. Now, there Is a catch to this rule, or perhaps it might better be describ ed as a limitation. This is in effect that 8 student must bare been a regu lar student In high school and have passed three subjects the semester prior to tbe one he is now in to be eligible. This means that high school gradu ates who were not in school last year cannot return, and play high school athletics this year regardless of whether they hold a diploma or not. Eleventh grade students who at- tended school last year and received their diplomas are eligible to return to the 12th grade and participate in sports. This means that Harry Oan- dy, who graduated last June and was given a football scholarship at Clem- son, can return to the Camden high school and play football this year. An exception to this rule provides that boys who aro in the service and have reached their twentieth birth day may return and play athletics while taking credits toward a 12th grade diploma. Portable Meachers At FootbaH Fieid Will Replatoe Bleabcber SuctioM That Has Rotted Away “Butch” LaOuardia, mayor of New York, wants to force the recognition of colored bell players by tbe major ^oops. Butch has appointed a com mittee to study the existence of the colored line in organised baseball. In a letter to the owners of major league clubs the New York executive com plains that nothing has been dono to solve the employment of colored base ball players In either league. • « • • And probably nothing ever will he done. Despite the efforts of Ney York’s mayorality comic. • • • • *■ As we expected, TJamden service men woqld like to see a well-halanc- ed program of sport recreation in this bafliwick. Following close upon oar appeal two weeks ago for an eapree- sloo from the men in khaki regarding post war sports here, we have been accocted by a score or more of the boys declaring they were with ns ”100 per cent.” • • • • Thanks fellowe, we knew we had tbe right slant on affairs. And now that the war is over and quite a few boys will come back and become American Legion veterans, we will be looking forward to a rejuvenation in baseball around these dlggiD|;e. • • • • Let’s start planning for a smart Junior LegioB team amt year. * • V • Remember when they built fbe ball park and a huge sign along the Broad street fence read: "Training Grounds of the Syracuse Chiefs?" That ball park wasn’t so had then. But wouldn’t you feel horribly chagrined and hu miliated if some one installed a sign at the football field entrance reading “Home of the Camden Bulldogs, 1944 State Champions?’’ Verily the great est football team in Camden football history—but ouch! what a playing plant. • • • • This boy Joe Hatel, Woodruff pitch ing ace, is headed for the "big lime" or this comer misses a good bet. Hasel pitched against Memphis, Teun. Junior Legion team last .week and held the Mississippi river lads help less, allowing no hits and winning^! to 2. Elrrors and walks gave Memphis their only runs. Many Camden baseball hugs at tended the entire series of games in the Sumter tournament .It might be of interest to Camden fans to know that if we had a suitable baseball plant we could get some of these regional or sectional tournaments. Dodgers Pass Up Camden As Site For Ban School ’The Brooklyn National Baaeball League team Is again sponsoring base ball schools and have already an nounced High Poiiit. N. C., as tbe lo cation for the one to cater to the North Carolina talent Several eyiers ago tbs Dodgsrs con ducted a school at High Point and one in Camden. When representatives of the Brooklyn team came through Camden recently and visited the local baseball field they were aston ished at tbe air of neglect that was in evidence in the weed-grown field, the damage to the club house and the apparent overall picture Of careless ness of maintenSDce. Just where the Dodger school will be held in this state is not known, but it will not be in C^saden. !• Ml Iks Issd • Unlive Imt «l Ikn ■SnS—iStSP* BOR TMb xsuscHxir BMd a.
