Area. After his furlough, he will
be reassigned at Mianri, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Baker of
2006 North Broad street, observed
their 64th wedding anniversary. Ikst
Sunday, April 16. They married at
Morrlsonvllle. N. Y., on Lake Cham
plain, and have since spent thirty-
seven winter seasons in Camden. A
host of Yrlends wish them many happy
returns. ,

The regular meeting of the Hob-
klrk Hill Chapter D. A. R. will be held
at the residence of Mr*. H. G. Martin
on Friday afternoon, April 19th. at

'Thompson Home Demonstration club
wa* held on Thursday, the, 6th, at the
home of Mrs. A. L. McLeod. Miss
Margaret Fewell, H.D.A., being unable

ly* blanks wire filled out, after which
delicious refreshments were served.
MRS. STEVENSON ENTERTAINS
The members of the Wednesday
afternoon bridge club were delight
fully entertained last Wednesday by
Mrs. R. E. Stevenson at her home on
Fair street
The bouse was beautiful with Its
arrangei^ents of pansies, roses and
other seasonal flowers. High score
prises went to Mrs. John L. Team and
Mrs. F. D. Goodale. Mrs. M. G. Mul
ler and Mrs. Pheobe Schenk were
visitors and played for absept mem
bers of the club.
After cards delicious sandwiches,
cake and Coca-Colas were served.

a shoulder corsage of white roses
Mrs. Holland is the only daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cole of Bethune.
She graduated from Bethune High
school in the class of ’42. For the

In Camden Hospitol
l)uring Year 1944
Two hundred and thirty eight bab
ies were bom in the Camden Hospital
during 1944, according to Mr. M. Ba
ruch, administrator, in his annual re
port to the Board of Trustees and the
members of the hospital.. This shows
an increase over 1943, In keeping with
the trend toward increased hospitali
zation evidenced by people over the
county. ,
“Camden Hospital last year treated
244 free patients for a total of 2793
days,” he said. "Only 1617 of the
1984 patients admitted during 1944-
paid their bills in full. In addition
to the patients, 467 were charged less
than cost Put into monetary terras,
this represents a cost of 134.636.50 to
the hospital—made possible by Ker
shaw County, Duke Endowment. Biir-
dell Tmstees and City of Camden and
a few individual donations. The av
erage daily patient census whs 47.3."
In his report. Mr. Baruch paid tri
bute to the work of the hospital
staff, which has been depleted by the
absence of Dr. A. B. Whitaker. Dr.
John Brewer, Dr. J. W. Brunson and
Dr. F. G. Shaw and former nurses
who are In the service, as well as
many other amployees. A part of this
shortage has been replaced with the
enrollment of a nursing class of 38
ahd the assistance of many former

Conn., who has been spending the

Camden, enjoying the beauties of our

On Saturday night Mis* Price invit
ed a few friend* to celebrate Mr. Red-
fearn’s fiftieth birthday at hi* apart
ment at 1507 Fair St.
The occasion was a most enjoyable
one. Hta apartment was gay .‘with
lovely, flowers, the table being center
ed with a bowl of blue delphinium
and pink roses. In the living room
were American beauty roses and tall
gladlolas.
A birthday cake, decorated in pink
and green, topped with fifty candles
was cut by Mr. Redfearn and many
gifts open^ by him.

American Red Cross has received an
emergency request for metal coat
hangers to be used by service men

The American Red Cross head
quarters at Atlanta, has suggested
that the school children be utilfsed
as a means of gathering the metal
hangers. Persons who have hangers
that they are willing to donate are

Red Cross headquarters or to anyone

It is further suggested that the
