In pointing to the fire record‘Rang er Smith says that he recognizes that there is st)ll much burning to be done. And he therefore wanta to urge all farmers and landowners to continue to take care in burning. It is only by observing the following rules that farmers can keep fires from burning over woodlands throughout the Coun ty: 1. Burn early in the morning or late in the evening. 2. Plow a break around areas to be burned. 3. Have some sort of fire fighting tools available in-ease fire should get away. Strict adherence to such rules will make it possible for the County to maintain as excellent tire record as was shown in the past six months. Col. Dean Clarifies Overseas Mailing Atlanta. Ga., Jan. 17.—Army postal service wishes to clear up some of the misunderstandings of the public rela tive to overseas mall delivery, accord ing to CoL JHartJey B. Dean, Fourth Service Command postal officer. “It appears,'' said Col. Dean, ‘’that one of the complaints of the public is that mail service from overseas is better than the service going overseas. The reason for this is that mail coming to the United States is pound for a def inite, fixed address while overseas communications are often delayed due to the necessity of directory service and forwarding to find organizations and individuals in a constantly chang ing scene. ''Another thing which seems to puzzle the public is the fact that over seas letters are received in bunches. This is due to transportation faclli- ties—if a convoy sails only every two weeks, naturally the mail will pile up and be received in one batch. This includes air mail. Both aid and ordi nary mail accumulate waiting for car go space and as the space is available, the oldpst mail is shipped out. first.
