BOYKIN JACKSON l The ’many friends of Pvt. Boykin Jackson will be glad to hear be has arrived safely In Italy, accordinx to a letter received by his sister, Mrs. Henry Gladdon of this city. Pvt. Boykin has been in service 10 months. He received his basic training at Fort Jackson and Camp Blanding, Fla He spent a 11-day furlough here in Nov., returning to Fort Meade, Md., where be was shipped overseas. Before en tering the service Pvt. Boykin was employed at a lignor store here. He has one son. Boykin. Jr., who lives at his home near Lugoff. Mrs. Gladden has another brother in service. Pvt. George B. Jackson. He receiv^ his training at Fort Jackson and Denver, Colo., and was transferred to Dyeiw- burg, Tenn., where he is now station ed. Before entering the service Pvt. He has suggested that the old De- Saussure home on Mill street, used by the C4idet club for several yeers while the Southern Aviation school was in operation, could be made community center for many groups in Camden. We think he is right. We believe that there are plenty of ua ■ —• I selfish groups in Camden that would combine to assist in the operation of such a Center. Shortly after we had the cooveraa- tlon with the business man we met Mra. W. F. Buckley. Mrs. Buckley has taken an active Interest in all matters of a civic nature both here and iu her Sharon. Conn., community. We referred to the suggestion of tbe busi ness man and it was Mrs. Buckley who urged us to outline the plan In a newspaper article. So there It is folks. Wbat do you think about such a plan? The young people of our community are our greatest assets. We should give them tbe opportunity of meeting together In snitable sniroqndtngs. They should have a place to gather, play games or dance without it having to be in placet where there Is no real supervision.
