deceased was 84 years old. Mr. Fid-
wards was the son of the late JTmes
H. Edwards and Olivia Susan F-dwards
of .Saluda cotinty. He inade his home
In Saluda coupty until about 30 years
ago he moved to Kershaw . county,
where he spent the rest of his life.
Mr. Edwards was a member of the
First Baptist-church In Camden. The
deceased was married to Miss Amanda
—^firpenTeF in Dec. 1897.
F'uneral services'were held at his
home gt DeKalb Wednesday after
noon at 4 o’clock, conducted by Rev.
J. B. Caston and Rev. Mr. Dabney.
He was survived by seven nieces and
five- hephews.

when 1500,000 worth of bonds was
purchased by the Standard Oil com
pany of New Jersey in South Caro
lina, it was announced by J. H. Ores
sett, field supervisor.
Of this amount 15,000 will be cred
ited to the—Kershaw county quota
which Ja In keeping .with Easo’g-polk^
of making its purchases of war bonds
through the communities in which it
operates. This is the sixth purchase
of 1500,000 made In South Carolina
I by the Standard Oil company of New
I Jersey.

ceived the purple heart medal for
wounds received In action In FYance
on August 5, 1944. Pfc. Maynard is
the son of Mrs. Charles Maynard of
Sumter, formerly of Bethune. arid has
been In service since Oct, 1942. and
overseas since April, 1944. and is now
in a rehabilation camp in England.

All-Sontbem high school team would
listen to the sport Writers of Sumter,
Florence, Charleston. Hartsvllle. (Thes-
ter, Lancaster, who can tell them
plenty of the ability of these players.

This lad Marshall is playing his
fourth year in high school football
and believe it or not, he is only 16
years old. Six feet tall and scaling
190 pounds, he has been a real tower
of stfength to the Bulldog machine
for four years and this year really
rates as an All-High School player.

Co^ is also playing his fourth year
for Camden high. This slashing back
is only 17. Cox is the third of a fam
ily of football stars and the same is
true of Marshall. Ip each instance the
brothers who preceded them on the
gridiron path to glory are all in the
service of Uncle Sam.
We realize the value of these two.

did not stress the fact that they have
been part of a football machine that
has eleven fine cogs. Wilbur Connell,
to our way of thinking, ft the best
center in the state. Wilbur should be
snapped up by some wise college
