At Swansea Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Rhoden, 79, of Swansea, were held at f:t0 Thursday of last week at the Double Pond Baptist churchy near Blacksvills. interment followed In the chnrch cemetery. Mrs. Rhoden died early Wednesday ■morning at her home in Swansea. She was formerly of Blackville but had lived la Swansea for the past 22 years. She was the widow of the late Charles H. Rhoden. Surviving are five sons, W, B. Rhodea of (3amden. E. E. and T. A.' Rhoden of Swansea. R. O. Rhoden of Columbia, and L. B. Rhoden of Sa vannah, Oa.; three daughters, Mrs. ElU Hair of GoldvUle, Mrs. W. H. Derrick of DacusvIUe, and Miss Merle Rhoden of Swansea; also 24 grand children and 21 graat-grandcbildren. children. The mother, encouraged by the welfare repreaentative, made every effort to provide for the chil dren, even securing work in a de fense industry in another county, but becanse she could not find aaltoble| living quarters for her children she had to return to them. The report continues: “Keceotly the mother announced her marriage to an Industrious young man who has assumed full responsi bility for the support of the children. He is working regularly, has foond a place for the family to live, and the mother has written the agency twice thanking the department for helping her and the cbiidVen when they were in dire need. She is now quite inde pendent and the children are happy with their mother and stepfather.” Incidentally, the sheriff is also well pleased with the handling of a ease that bad given him'much concern.
