Did I know my lesson, or would I falter? I began my recitation in a falter ing voice. ‘Nor interruptfed the teacher. I returned to the begin ning, but when I came again to the same point in my- lesson a stern ‘No’ from the teacher stopped me. again. In great contusion I sat down. •“Next!* called out the teacher. The next pupiK heard a resounding ‘No’ when he had hardly begun, but he continued on to the end of his lesson. The teacher rewarded him with a ‘Very well.’ , “•Why, Ijrecited it just as he did,, I said. ^ ‘That Is not .enough, the I teacher excldimed. ‘It is not enough to know your lesson; you must be sure. When .you allowed me to sto^ you, it meant that you were un certain.
