have returned from a two months'
visit with relatives in Walterboro.
Mrs. Harvey Watt, Fair street, has
returned from a two weeks' stay with
her family in Gainsville, Fla. She
was accompanied home by her mother,
Mrs. Wm. Wade Hampton, and Miss
Ruth McMillan of Gainsville. Fla.
Col. and Mrs. Clarke Williams, the
Cedars and the Pines, left on Thursday
for New York after spending the
season at their plantation near Camden.
They were accompanied by Mrs.
Pat Orr and Mrs. Charles Russell who
will remain in New York for a ton
day stay.
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. DeTrevllle left
Friday for Clarksdale, Miss., to visit
with their son, Aviation Cadet James
S. Bundrick. who is stationed at
Fletcher Field. Returning via Decatur,
Ala., they will visit with their other
son, Julian DeTrevillo, who is with the
Southern Aviation school. |
Mrs. Walter Abbott Goodale, Laurens
street, returned this week from
Keesler Field, Miss., where she spent
sometime with her husband, who Is
in training there. She left on Thursday
for her home in Pickens, where
she will visit her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. R. Oantrell, before Joining
Mr. Goodale in Biloxi, Miss.
Billy Mullen, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Mullen, Mulhall, is home for a
two weeks' visit from Virginia Military
Academy, Lexington, Va. He is
in the enlisted reserves and waiting
orders to report. Another son, Freddie
Mullen, has been transferred from
Biloxi, Miss., to Syracuse University,
Syracuse, N. Y., for air corp preflight
training.
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leslie Jordan
of Fair street, announce the engagement
and approaching marriage of
their daughter. Sosalie, to Victor
Marturano, lieutenant in the United
States Army air corps, of Montclair,
N. J., and stationed at Ephrata, Washington.
Miss Jordan attended the Baron
DeKalb High school and is at present
employed with the traffic department
of the Southern Bell Telephone Co.
Lt. Marturano is a graduate of the
Montclair High school and before entering
the army was employed at the
Wright Aeronautical corps.
The wedding will take place in the
near future.

Mrs. A. Sam Kareah Is a patient at
Providence hospital, Columbia. She
submitted to an operation on last
Wednesday and Is doing nicely.

visiting here, played for an absent

Delicious refreshments were served

The Wednesday Morning Bridge
club met tills week with Mrs. Annie
S. Davidson, Fair street. Special
guests wero Mrs. T. Lee Little,, Mrs
It. E. Stevenson and Mrs. Donald
Morrison. No luncheon is being served
for the duration but Coca-Colas
were served during (he morning to the
12players. Garden flowers were used
in the game room. This club plays
for a yearly prize so no prizes were
given.
CADETS ENTERTAINED
SATURDAY AFTERNOON
The aviation cadets at the 64
AAFFTD, Southern Aviation school,
were entertained on Saturday afternoon
and evening with a swimming
party and weiner roast at the Whitaker
cabin on Hermitage Lake. This
party, sponsored by tHe Grace Episcopal
church, was chaperoned by the
hostesses Mrs. Jack Whitaker, Jr.,
Mrs. L. H. Rockafellow and Miss Lillian
Yates. About 40 cadets and their
dates enjoyed this hospitality.

AT KIWANIS MEETING
The Kiwanis club had the pleasure
of hearing Mr. J. It. Hawkins, live
'stock specialist from Clemson college,
at their weekly meeting Tuesday
at Thomas' Tavern. J. B. Canty,
who was in charge of the program.
Introduced the speaker who gave a
very Instructive talk on the role that
live stock production can play In the
war effort. Twenty members were
present with one visitor. Next week's
program will be In charge of Ames
Cooper. Oliver Rice, president.

Pfc. David Spencer Stokes, son of Mrfr.
Viola Stokes of Bethune, at a wedding
ceremony performed In the office
of County Judge N. C. Arnett Satur-j
day, May 22, at 3 o'clock In the afternoon.
The wedding was a quiet affair,
only the contracting parties being
present.
Following a brief honeymoon the
groom will return to Camp Claiborn,
Louisiana, and the bride is to make
her home with her mother in Sumter.
Pfc. Stokes is a graduate of the Bethune
High school and hlB wife of the
Sumter High school.

The vows wore spoken before an arrangement
of summer hydrangea,

baskets, an antique brass urn boldlitK
magnolias was on the center tublo
and was flanked by brass caudtMabra
holding white tapers. In the background
was the United Status flag
and the church flag.
Prior to the ceremony Mrs. James
Gaudy rendered a program of nuptial
music. Tho wedding march from
"Lohengrin" by Wagner, was used
for processional and Mendelssohn's
march from "Midsummer Night's
Dream" for the recessional.
The couple entered the church together.
The bride, a beautiful blond,
was lovuly in a wedding gown of
while crepe and net, made with u
high neckline. "Tho long tight sleeves
came out in points on the wrist, the
waistline was fitted and the skirt extended
into a train. The hip length
veil of Illusion fell fronj a cluster of
flowers worn halo fashion. She cartied
a bouquet of bridal rosea, white
snapdragons and carnations. The
double ring ceremony was used.
Immediately after the service a
small reception Was held at tho homo
of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Nettles with
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Nettles, Jr.;?as
hosts. The bride's table was covered
with a white embrolded cloth and
centered by an antique crystal bowl of
Shasta daisies. A wedding oake, complete
with miniature bride and groom,
was cut by the couple. Bowles of
white flowers and crystal candlelabras
with white candles were used In
the dining room.
Assisting hosts were Mr. and Mrs.
John T. Nettles and Mrs. Wm. D.
Nettles. Among the invited guests
were Mr. and Mrs. W.. Robin Zemp,
Mr. and Mrs. M. l^ee Mays, Mrs.
James Gaudy, Rev. J. 13. Caston.
Mrs. Rand berg is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Harter of St.
Paul, Minn. She attended St. Paul
local schools and is employed at
Minn. Mining and Mfg. Co., St. Paul.
The bridegroom Is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. N. 11. Sandberg of St. Paul
He attended the University of Minnesota.

Osborne, Jr., born Wednesday, May
11). at the Providence hospital, Columbia.
His mother is the former Ann
Mary Shields of Mobile, Ala., and his
father_la..Lieut. Hamilton Osborne of
Robins Flelcl. Ga. His grandparents,
Mr and Mrs. J, H. Osborne of Columbia,
lived lu Camden for some
years where Mr. Osborne was connected
with the Southern Cotton OH
Co. He was also mayor of Camden
while a resident here.
