Received your much appreciated
letter yeaterday and sure waa glad to
hear from you.
Mom pent me your aweet Ohrlatmaa
present Aod J. sure will enjoy using
them. T|ie^ were Juat what 1 needed.
I guess you were glad to hear about
my going Into the service, but I want
to do my part. I know It will be different
but I love it so far. We get
good food, have warm sleeping barracks.
I know It will not be as nice
ah staying home but this la war. We
have the beat men and our Great Commander
In Chief just can't be beaten.
We are a long way from a Victory but
we will win and then we can go back
to our home. Grandma, you can't
take a man's freedom from him. He
will fight, and he will have boub to
follow lu hie footsteps to win. There
has never been a true American boy
or man who wouldn't fight for what
ho knows Is right. Now today Is no
exception. We of tpday's American
army will fight and fight until
we have won, and wiu we shall do.
You muy ask why 1 am so sure. Well,
there Is two reasons. We want our
rights to live as free men live, and
we will win because we have Clod on
our side. * v

Soldiers Flock
To Local Dance
Approximately thee hundred soldiers
from out of the city took advantage
of the Camden recreation
center in the Kutledge etroet armory
over the week end.
Under the direction of Mrs. Mary
Ella (iHHkln, a dance was given for
the soldiers Saturday night and was
at tended1.by over 100 couples. Sunday
afternoon a roller skating party was
offered and the armory was Jammed
with skaters and spectators. It was
estimated that fully 160 couples enJoyed
the afternoon program. The
visiting service men Included scores
of soldiers from Fort Jackson, cadets
from Shaw Field and the Southern
Aviation school and a group of sailors
from a Virginia port.
City officials and those connected
with the Civilian Defense program
give full credit to the successful'recreational
program that Is being carried
out daily at the Kutledge street aromy
