"I Wake Up Screaming" at the Haiglar Monday and Tuesday BETTY QRABLE appearing In her' iateat success, "I Wake Up Screaming," at The Halglar Monday and Tuesday. | ? I New Film Hailed Unusual of Year The audience at the Halglar Theater next Monday night wyi witness one of the exciting mystery dramas of the year. It Is a Fox production and Is entitled "I Wake Up Screaming." It will bo repeated again on Tuesday night. Sensational Is the word used for Betty Orable; new "It" man Is what they will call Vic; terrific Is the description of Carole. "I Wake Up Screaming" is a thrilling splno-freezlng mystery drama. Based on Steve Fisher's novel, It tells a Btory that will have the audience spellbou nd. Mature as a promoter, Alan Mowbray as an actor, and Allyn Joslyn as a newspaper columnist select Carole, a witness, as the girl they are going to glamorize and make the darling of cafe society. The plan succeeds and Carole Is offered a llol lywood contract which she accepts without consulting her backers. The next day she is found murdered. Mature is really on the spot, because detective Laird Cregor has decided to prove that he is the killer. Betty, meanwhile, has fallen for Vic although he is suspected of murdering her sister, and she hides evidonce which apparently adds to his guilt. Together Vic and Betty learn the real murderer, and make the detective accept the truth in the most amazing denouement ever shown on the screen. I Betty Orable and Carole Landis are again excellent as two beautiful sisters. Victor Mature, in his first film since his success on the Broad| way stage, shows the superb talent which made him the toast of New York. Fine support is given by the featured cast which also includes William Gargan. | H. Bruce Humberstone has directed a suspense-filled picture from the exciting screen play by Dwlght Taylor. i ' Cancer of the breast caused 16,488 deaths during 1(J40?about one-tenth of all cancer deaths reported to the census bureau that year.
