Dr. Rutledge had practised dentistry in Kershaw since 1904. Snowstorm Sunday Over Lake Murray I Columbia. May 13?There was a snowstorm Sunday night over Lake Murray-rthe big body of water 10 miles west of Columbia. Major Walter Williams, commander of the 105th Observation squadron, explained, however, that the snow was 12.000 feet above the water. At that attitude, he said, the temperature, was six degrees below freezing. "I turned on the landing lights and saw by them that 1 was In the middle of a snowstorm," the officer said. "I radioed this back to the squadron, where shirt sleeves were predominant in weather on the ground of 65 to 70 degrees. I was in my shirt sleeves hut the heathr In the ship kept me warm." Production credit loans are made for the growing of crops and livestock and for almost every purpose for which a farmer needs short-term credit. .CAMDEN MARINE TRANSFERRED .TO NEW JERSEY Private Dillard Pllliott, USMC, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Elliott residents of 311 York Street, who enlisted in the U. S. Marnie Corps the 6th of March has been transferred from the Marine Barracks, Porris Island, S. C., where he underwent his preliminary training to the Naval Air Station, Lakehurst, New Jersey. Elliott was transferred to New Jersey the 30th of April. He enlisted In the Marine Corp^ at the recruiting station, located in the Columbia City Hall. At the Naval Air Station lie will become a member of the Marine Detachment stationed there to guard the valuable government property. Tin- local Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Columbia now has vacancies for young men who wish cither to enlist in the regular service lor a period of four years or for those who wish to enlist in the Marine Corps Reserve. Upon enlisting in either branch of the Marine Corps a man will he sent to active duty at some Marine shore station, aboard ship, or to some foreign shore station or the Air Corps. Boosting Use of Cotton Leesburg, Ga., May 6.?The Agricultural Adjustment Administration sent a committee to investigate the needs of a negro family which recently had obtained 13 mattresses. The committee reported it found six of the mattresses on one bed, four on another and three on the third. W. und W. E. 3 Shaw, of near Bishopville; two J grandchildren, Caroline E. Shaw, and Harvey W. Shaw, Jr., and one sister, | Miss Dell Shaw, Mrs. Shaw, the former Miss Vara DuBose, died last July. Mr. Shaw was possibly the oldest living male member of Mt. Zion church, and had been an elder in fhe H church for many years. He was very active in church work and iu the bet- j terment of his community aud county j in general. Mr. Shaw was born if" 3 the Mt.
