C., Nov. 17.?Although most of Winthrop's graduates enter the teaching field, only seventeen of the 1935-1937 student body are daughters of school officials, statistics issued today concerning the 1.314 students at Wlnthrop College this year, reveal. The occupation of the largest number of parents (400) Is forming. Resides giving the occupations of the parents, the report shows that on the campus there are 452 Raptlsts, the denomination with which the largest number of students are affiliated. Merchants and widows are the only classes besides farmers, having more than 100 parents. There are 158 of the former and 156 of the latter. Between thirty and sixty parents are engaged in each of the following ways: postal employees, railroad employees, salesmen, town, county and federal officers, and physicians and surgeons. Mill officials, general managers, civil and mechanical engineers, laborers, teachers and school officials, druggists, financiers and brokers, auditors and accountants, insurance agents and officers, gas and oil dealers. lawyers, minfeters, lumbermen, electricians, .mill operators and dentists?-of each of these professions there are from ten to thirty parents of Wlnthrop students. Those occupations having less than ten parents are: government aid employees, mechanics, newspaper editors and operators, contractors, naval officers, bankers, carpenters, barbers, telephone and telegraph operators, undertakers, veterinarians, cafe managers, boarding house managers, hotel owners, musicians, construction foremen, tailors, ginners, landscape architects, commercial artists and architects. Thirty-three parents are deceased; twenty-one, unemployed; and thirteen, retired. With the Baptist denomination leading in the religious preference of students of Wlnthrop, Methodist and Presbyterionism are the next most popular faiths at that college. Only thirty-seven students failed to indicate a denominational preference. Complete statistics of the church affiliations of Wlnthrop students are as follows: Baptist, 452; Methodist, 367; Presbyterian, 281; Episcopal, 63; A. R. Game and flub chapters and communities will get in line for federal aid in behalf of our game, our lish, our forests, our streams. The powers-that-be are now shaping their program for the next half-dozen years. t There has been set up the South Carolina planning bojard working in cooperation with the national resources committee, and this combination is undertaking to make a "national inventory of public construction needs for the next six years, beginning January 1, 1937." It is believed that this inventory will form the basis for future projects undertaken by the WPA, the PWA, and other federal and state agencies. In a suggested list we note conservation of natural resources is given a major heading, which appeals to our organization directly. The planning board suggests projects in "forestation; erosion and land utilization control; water conservation; flood control; game, fish and bird conservation." We even And under utilities, "sewerage systems," and these will aid stream improvement. Of decided interest to us is "Planning, research, survey, mapping and construction drawing projects: planning projects, reasearch and survey projects." Quoting from a letter from L. A. Emerson, state consultant: "Knowing that your organization is deeply interested in the improvement and future development of your community, we solicit your assistance in this program. We are enclosing a list of project types to be Included in the inventory and ask that your organization recommend to the local officials all projects for public construction for which you see a public need, irrespective of methods of financing."
