Telephone 100 b - J Miss Hoy kin Hostess Suggestive of the approaching Thanksgiving season, Miss Charlotte Boykin entertained with a lovely Thanksgiving fforty Tuesday afternoon at the homo of her sister, Mrs. Henry Beard. There were seven tables of players. Thanksgiving decorations were effectively used in the living room and dining room with quantities of chrysanthemums in varying tones of yellow. A turkey, which was the first prize, was won by Mrs. Mortimer Boykin. Miss Julia Seabrook, winner of the booby, was presented a pumpkin and as a consolation prize, Miss Elizabeth Clfclk drew a mince pie. A salad course was served on the prettily appointed card tables which further emphasized the Thanksgiving idea. Met With Miss Copeland On Saturday morning at the home of her mother, Mrs. IT. E. Copeland, Miss Edith Copeland entertained her I bridge club and an extra table of {guests. Thanksgiving decorations were used throughout the rooms and the same idea was carried out in the salad course which followed the games. Met With Mrs. Smith 15 Mrs. Bennie Smith entertained the members of the Wednesday afternoon club and a number of other friends this week. Tables were arranged for the game of contract bridge in the living room where autumn flowers were used as decorations. Mrs. Charlie Zemp won the prize for the top score. A salad course was served to the club members and Mrs. W. W. i Bates, Mrs. Mortimer Boykin, Mrs. John deLoach and Mrs. F. H.. Craighill, who came in after cards. Entertained at Boykin The members of the Wednesday morning bridge club were entertained this week by Mrs. J. W. Cantey at her home at State Farm. Mrs. J. T. Hay, Mrs. Deas Boykin, Mrs. H. GMarvin and Miss Molly Anderson substituted for absent club members. Mrsr D.-G. Housar and Mfss Charlotte Shannon made top score for the morning. At this meeting, which was the first in this series of games, Mrs. J. W. Cantey was elected president, and the club adopted the new system of scoring in contract. Celebrated Birthday Thirty-six little tots spent a happy afternoon Wednesday with Lantye Williford, son of Dr. and Mrs. J. L. | Williford, when he celebrated his sixth birthday. Many games and contests were enjoyed. Catherine Sheorn, Johnnie deLoach and Charlie Zemp were awarded prizes for winning in the contests. Following this the guests were invited into the sun parlor where ice cream, cakes and candies were served from a lace-covered table, centered with a birthday eako lighted with six candles. Mrs. S. C. Tuesday was the eighty-second birthday anniversary of Mrs. J, F. Miller, the mother of Mr. A. K. Miller. Of interest to Camden friends--tj*the announcement of the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Little on Monday, November 14th. Ho was born in Charlottesville, Va., and has ?een christened Ralph Little, Jr. Miss Celeste Mumford, who spent the summer months in Ashevillo and Philadelphia, has returned to Camden to spend the winter and is at the home of Mrs. W. S, Burnet on Fair street. Mrs. Julia Long Knapp has returned to Camden and again opened her home, "Deere Place." Mrs; Thomas McPow, of Augusta, is visiting Mrs, Fred Bryant. Miss Peggy Baldwin, of Columbia, spent the week end with Miss Frances McLeod. Captain and Mrs. Dwight Partridge, of Bedford, N. Y., arrived Friday and have opened their home for the winter. Mrs. Matilda McCann and George Potter spent Sunday with Miss Marjorie McCann in Greensboro, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Alexander visited relatives in Greenville Tuesday. They were accompanied as far as Greer by Mrs. L. P. Tobin and Mrs. Bill Owens and son, where they visited relatives. Robert Lewis, of Washington, D. C., is spending his vacation here with relatives. Mrs. George R. Cook and son, George, of Trenton, N. J., have returned to Camden. Rev. and Mrs. Warren G. Ariail and children left Tuesday for Cheraw where they will be next year. The congregation of the Lyttleton Street Methodist church regretted that the Bishop saw fit to move Rev. Y., returned this week to Camden to spend the winter months. They are again occupying the John M. Villepigue residence on Lyttleton street. Miss Annie Belle Thompson spent last Wednesday in Aberdeen, N. C., with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. David R. Williams and children, who have 'been at their home in Tulsa, Okla., all summer returned this week to their winter home, "Mulberry Plantation," south of Camden. Judge M. L. Smith was a visitor in Charleston on Armistice Day, and was speaker on the occasion of the Palmetto Post's banquet that evenin? Attorney M. M. ?Johnfion, who is & past president of the Aberdeen, N. C., Rotary club, was present at their meeting of past president's on last Wednesday. Friends will regret to learn of the illness of Miss Loulie Whitaker. The city schools had an interesting program during chapel hour and past state Commander A. Stanley Llewellyn J made an inspiring talk to the children. At eleven o'clock Leroy Belk Post No. 17 and its Auxiliary assembled at the intersection of Broad and DeKalb streets for a meipofial servico to the World War dead. An impressive ceremony was carried out by Commander W. M. Alexander, Adjutant S. T. Crolley ami A. San) Karesh. As the names of those killed in action or who died in the service were read a member of tho Junior Auxiliary placed a flower in a frame under the roll of honor. Then a squad under command of Lieutenant Lorick, fired a volley, tapps was blown. In all, the ceremony only taking eleven minutes and it was very impressive. All stores were closed during the time, so a large crowd witnessed it. At 1:30 the same day by invitation from the James Leroy Belk Post of tho American Legion all ex-service men, their wives, all members of tho Auxiliary and their husbands were invited to a barbecue held at the fair grounds. Short talks were made by officers of tho Legion and a band from Heath Springs furnished music. Around threo hundred enjoyed dinner with the Legion, later going to the football game put on by Camden high school team against Barnwell high school team, for the benefit of the Canulen hospital. It was an exciting game ending G to 6. The Chaplain of the post invited all ex-service men and their wives to a memorial service held at Bcthesda Presbyterian church on Sunday and a large crowd was present to hear the excellent service. ? CI Met With Mrs. Hay Mrs. W. O. Hay was hostess to the members of her card club on Saturday afternoon. Mrs. W. H. Harris, Mrs. Tom Ancrum and Mrs. Henry Beard were special guests of the club. Mrs. Henry Beard made high score for the afternoon and was awarded a prize. .Sandwiches7""cakes and cocoa were served after cards. Williford and for the club by Mrs. Hubert Wilson. The low prize went to Mrs. Lawrence Betsill and Miss Catherine Murchison cut the consolation. The honor guest was presented an attractive prize. A chicken salad coAsft With coffee followed tho-card games. Miss Sterne was again honored on Tuesday afternoon when Mrs. Fred Bryant entertained at a handkerchief Shower and bridge party. This party also honored Mrs. Thomas McDow, of Augusta, who is the house guest of Mrs. Bryant. A miniature silver bell was pinned on each guest upon arrival. There were three tables of contract in a lovely setting of fall flowers. A novel feature of the party was the old-time nosegay formed of handkerchiefs which were wrapped in vari-colored cellophane and presented to Miss Sterne. Miss Faith deLoach received tho top-score prize and each honoree was presented with a gift. The hostess served a salad course with coffee.
