Walsh was hostess at a delightful contract bridge party on Friday afternoon of last week, entertaining at her home on North Mill street. Mrs. Walsh's lovely affair assembled guests for five tables. Colorful touches in the rooms were gurden /lowers in mixed bouquets of asters, lilies and verbena. bridge prize was won by Mrs. Joe Thomas, who made the highest score artd to Mrs. S. W. Miss Carolyn Richardson left 'I^uesday for Richmond, where she will visit Miss Eleanor Kable for a few days. Mrs. W. P. Thomas, who has been spending several weeks in Brevard ind Hendersonville returned home this week. Mrs. J. E. Ross and Misses Li 1:1 and Florrie 5fae Ross have returned home after a visit in Georgia and Tennessee. Miss Mattie Gerald and Miss Frances Rhame have returned home from Darlington, where they have been visiting the former's sister, Mrs. James N. Kirven. Miss Louise Drawdy and Miss Esther DeLoaohe will leave on September first for Philadftphia. They will enter the~ training ^school for nurses at the Presbyterian hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Hughey Tindal and children spent the week end in Columbia with relatives. They were called there on account of the death of Mrs. TindaPs uncle, Mr. William Watson. Misses Harriet Steedman, Louis'; Mitchell and Mrs. Ira Stork, of Charleston, spent Sunday here. Mrs. Taft. who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Steedman, returned to Charleston with the party. Mrs. E. J. McLeod and daughter, Miss Frances McLeod, have returned from Wallaceton where they were visiting. They were accompanied home by Mrr and Mrs. William Rogers, who will spend a few days here. Blaney Schools . Open Thursday Blaney, S. <CM Aug. 25.?The Blaney public school will begin its 1931-1932 session Monday morning, August 31, at 8 o'clock. The school again will be under the supervision of Superintendent E. W. Rentz, who has raised its standard and successfully directed its work for the past two years. 1 The faculty is composed of Super1 intendent E. \V. Rentz, Ehrhardt; Principal P. Clyde Singley, Prosperity; P. B. Waters, Saluda; Thelnia Christie, Whitmire; Ruth Morrell, Horrell Hill; Julia Crider, St. Matthews; Gladys Bullock, NichoDT" Rhoda Wade, Chester; Annie Leila Wells, Valdosta, Ga.; Evelyn McNe'l. Columbia; Mrs. A. T. Simpson, Blaney and Jean Starnes, Ridgeway. All who are to stand special examinations on work not completed last session Will report at the school building Friday morning, August 28, at 9 o'clock. The first faculty meeting will be held 'Saturday morning. Legion Auxiliary Held Meeting The .American legion Auxiliary held It* monthly meeting for August at the legion hall with Mrs. Kva s Hasty and Miss Hattic H?svy joiht hostesses. The meeting was called to order and presided over by Mrs. M. M. Reusohovcr, using the new gavel for the first, time. Medals were discussed. The members decided to buy the -medals that are used by the Auxiliary. These are to be placed in three high schools in the county. Then the Auxiliary will have medals of award in ull high schools in Kershaw county. .Reports were read from convention. Also report of work of the Auxiliary for this year. We have sixty-one paid up members this year, the largest membership in the history of the Auxiliary. The treasurer reported a balance of $4b.H4 in the bank, which proves that the members have been working this year. The president reported that the Legion Post No. 17 had given Mr. Llewellyn, our beloved jjtate commander, ,a- plaque which ?w a 3 presented by Mr. T. V. Wulsh, post communder, in his most gracious manner. We tire proud of both commanders and find them very pleasant to work with. So many members being away for vacation our meeting was rath"r small, only fifteen being present. After the business was completed little Mary Smith entertained the members with two selections on the piano, "Friends of the Birds" and" "The Broken Doll." The ladies were delighted. Mary, having only been taking music two years, plays well. The hostesses then served ice cream and cake. Washout Causes Cars To Overturn Patrick, S. ('., Aug. 21.?Three cars of Seaboard Air Line train No. 2, from Miami to Hamlet, overturned here last night when the train hit a washout during a heavy rainstorm. Seven negro passengers suffered minor injuries. I fhe engine and three cars passed, safely over the washout, but the track settled to one side as the fourth car reached the weakened section and the car overturned, dragging two following cars down with it. Entertains For Visitor A pretty affair of Friday afternoon was the bridge party given by Miss Carolyn Richardson in honor of Miss Mary Burnet, of Macon, (in., who is visiting Miss Adcle Savage on Lyttleton street. Pretty garden .flowers were arranged in the rooms where the three tables were placed for the guests who included: Misses Katherine Kennedy, Carolyn Houser, Kmily Pitts, Adele Savage, Katherine Boykin, Betty Carrison, Carolyn Burnet, "Phyllis iCiirrijson, Alice De Pass, Mary Burnet and Willie Haile. The top score prize was won by Miss Willie Haile, and the low scojjo fell1 to Miss Katherine boykin. The honor guest was also remembered with a gift. After cards an iced course was served. Dr. and Mrs. J. L. Williford have returned home from Myrtle Beach, where they spent last week end. The government of Jugoslavia has announced that it cannot accept the terms of the Hoover debt moratorium. Every Member Canvass 1 ho Baptists of South Carolina are pressing the organization fof the great evury member canvass to ?n? taken in November. The aim is to enlist every Baptist in the support of the local church and the denominational program. The organization for Kershaw .association, which serves the Baptist churches of this immediate section, has been set up.
