Wheat Asked For Chinese Victims Shunghal, Auk. ?An appeal for surplus wheat of the United States to save 10,000,000 Chinese flood sufferers, who he said may die of starvation before spring unless aided, was made today by John Karl Baker, American authority on disasters in China, Baker said the flood vyhich still continued in 10 provinces w^s the most terrible disaster in China in .'10 years. At least $300,000,000 damage had been done, he estimated, but he would not even guess nt the number of deaths, which the "corpse recovery society" asserted were not less than 8,000 in the flooded Yungtse valley alone. Hundreds of bodit'K were being taken from the waters by the so ciety. Baker suid he believed a minimum of 5,000,0(8) bushels of American wheat would be needed for at least 4 six months. This wheat, lie said, could be supplied under credit arrangements between the American and (Chinese governments. Ruins Show Design of Ancient Indian House In a plowed cotton field in Mississippi the complete plan of a prehistoric Indian house was discovered recently. according to Henry II. Collins. Jr.. of the L'nlted States National museum. The plan showed three shallow circular trenches, the outermost of which was (50 feet In diameter. The builders set posts firmly two feet deep within the trenches as supports for tiie roof. The wall pf the structure was very likely ^ of wattle-work of reeds, plastered with clay. Traces of a tire pit wee Inside the house. In the outermost trench were found kitchen and household refuse, including liinios of deer, bear and smaller animals, fish Jaws, arrow points, a pipe and much broken pottery. Dies After Many Hours of Preaching Elizabeth Windham, known a.s "Sis" Windham, negress and evangelist, expired suddenly about five o'clock Wednesday morning enroute to Sumter from the Shiloh section where she had preached continuously from Tuesday night until 4 o'clock Wednesday morning- Heart failure was said to have been the cause her death. Coroner Cain has deemed an inquest unnecessary. The woman evangelist, according to information, had preached until she was almost exhausted and was enroute toward Sumter with two of her friends in a car, both men, when they reached the home of another friend on the -Shiloh road she asked one of the men with her to go to . this friendj> home to get a package aijd ht left the car and went toward^ihe house in compliance with her wish. Ere ne reached the house she fell over dead and her other companion in the car became alarmed and called the other man back from the house.
