The prisv, I oners were killed by the inadvertent fifing of a machine gun by guards, AN Ordinance To Require the Payment of License on Business, Occupations, and Professions in the City of Camden, S. C? for the Year From May 1? 19.30 to May 1, 1931. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Camden, in Council assembled and by the author- 1 ity of the same. Section 1. Every person, fijrm I company, or corporation, engaged on May 1, 1930, in any calling, business, profession or occupation in whole or in part within the city of Camden, as may be hereinafter specified, shall obtain during the month of May, 1930, a license therefor in the manner hereinafter prescribed. Every per son, firm, company or corporation commencing business in said city on or before the first day of May, 1930, < shall in like manner obtain a license ; therefor before entering upon such I ; calling, business, profession or occu: pation as hereinafter specified. |H Section 2. A penalty of fifteen i per cent shall be added to all licenses w-hich are not paid during the month of May, 1930, except such as may become due after that time. And provided further, that any person, firm, company or corporation who shall carry on, or attempt to carry on any calling, business, profession or occupation without a license as herein required, or who shall neglect or refuse to give the information required or to answer such questions as may be required or who shall fail to attend before the Mayor to be examint.j j . ^ wben so required, as provided in Section 2 and 3 of this ordinance may be deemed guilty of a violation thereof before the Municipal Court and may be fined not more than One Hundred Dollars, Or be imprisoned not exceeding thirty days< Section 4. All license granted un-/ bder this ordinance shall 4>e posted "in a conspicuous place, except in case of vehicles for hire, which vehicles shall have placed upon them metal badges with the number of badges and the license year marked theron, such badges to be furnished by the Clark and Treasurer upon payment of the license tax.. Failure to display such badges will subject the persons owning or using the same to a penalty of not more than Five Dollars or imprisonment not exceeding ten days. 'The license granted under this ordinance shall at all times be sub-' ject to inspection by any officers of the Oity of Camden and no calling, business, profession or occupation shall be carried on elsewhere than the place named in this license therefor, unless authority be granted by the Clerk and Treasurer, which- authority shall be endorsed on the license. Section 5. All licenses granted under this ordinance shall continue in force until the first day of May A. D. 1931, except such as are written for a shorter Derioa, as may hereinafter be provided. The City Council reserves the right to revoke any licenses for any cause which to them may seem to be just. All persons owning or controlling hacks or other vehicles moving on wheels and plying for hire in the City of Camden shall post in a conspicuous place in said hack or vehicle a printed schedule of prices, to be furnished by the Ctiy Clerk upon the issuance of license, and,keep the sahie so posted during the continuance of said license; and shall have a tag, furnished by the City Clerk, carrying a number corresponding with the number of said hack or vehicle, fastened on the outside of said hack or vehicle in such a position as to be easily seen; and all drivers of such hacks or vehicles shall wear a metal bndge, of convenient size, on the left side of his outer garment, with the number of his license painted or engraved thereon. Wherever in this ordinance the terms "persons, firm, company, corporation or Dirty" are used, the same shall include not only he principals, but in their absence shall include any agent, clerk or employee having charge, management or control of the business, calling, occupation or profession referred to, tu n Agent, clerk or employee shall be subject to the penalties heren intposed for failure to comply with the terms and requirements of this ordinance, in the same manner as II he, she or they were principals or proprietors.
