The Cost to the state 1 was 64,864.33 for each "working" , jay?the most of them given over to futile argument or to the killing of tome bill or another that ought never to have been introduced. Of the 6217,480.96 so expended, $19,200 went to the salaries of the senate, $50,000 to the salaries of the members of the house. In addition, however, each member, by the votes of both houses, 6260 in additional compensation as "expense money" at a cost of $44,200. The expenditures are listed: Senate a A. Seed Loan Money and Live-at-Home Farmers who have applied for peed loan money ahould bear in mind thai the application which they signed contained the following agreement on their part: "If this application ia granted, I agree to use such seed, fertiliser and methods of farming us are approved by the Department of Agriculture through its local representatives-?". Some of the approved methods required under this agreement are: 1. That the farmer who plants cotton shall poison, using at least the sweetened poison, as outlined by the Extension Service through the county agent who will publish such outline through the county newspaper^, 2. Cotton planters to use Coker's Cleveland No. 5 seed unless the land is blighted. 6> 3. Thaf each farmer produce a living for his family and livestock by having or getting (a) A 12-months' garden; (b) a flock of hens; (c) produce hogs for meat; (d) milk cow; (e) produce feed and food for family and stock; (f) produce some sweet potatoes. It ' is expected that all who are granted loans will follow this very closely and be able to make a favorable report later. However, if a farmer has no cow or sow or hens, he shall not use his seed loan money to buy them but he should be able to show later that he has gotten them through another method or has made a competent effort to secure said cow and sow and hens. I^arge Still Captured A raiding party of Sumter county rural officers and city officers seised a large still, 5,000 gallons of mash, 25 gallons of whiskey, a mule and wagon, and some fruit jars Monday morning on a branch of Rafting Creek 15 miles from Sumter off the Camden road. The raiding party was composed of Chief J. W. Scale and Rural Officers Norris and Tisdale and City Officers Tobias, Kinney and Kirvcn. The still, a 150 gallon outfit, was ,in operation when the officers arrived but several negro operatives fled into the woqds upon the approach of the raiding party, leaving the wagon and mule which officers captured.?-Sumter Herald.
