Club Met iWith Mrs. Kennedy On last Thursday morning the Kirkwood Book club met with Mrs. K. M. Kennedy, Jr., on Fair street. The living room, where the members gathered was abloom with early garden flowers and at noon the hostess served coffee and sandwiches after the business hour. Besides the memhers of the club other guests were: Mrs. I). O. Houser, Mrs. Alice Marye, Mrs. F. M. Zemp, Mrs. H. G. Carrison, Jr., Miss Henrietta Johnson, Mrs. W. H. Harris, Mrs. A. L). McAm and Mrs. Palmer DuBose. Mrs. Kirkland Hostess To Club Mrs. T. J. Kirkland entertained the Wednesday morning bridge club at her home on Lyttleton street. Besides the members Mrs. Kirkland had an extra table in honor of Mrs. H. E. Worcester, of Montclair, N. J. At this table also were Mrs. John W. Corbett, Mrs. Henry Savage, Sr., and Mrs. Uanlet, of New York. At noon the hostess served a course luncheon. Miss Coursen Entertains On Monday afternoon Miss Ella Coursen was hostess at a lovely bridge tea at her home v on Greeri street. Tables were arranged in the living room attractively decorated with cut flowers of many shades. A prize was awarded at each table and lucky winners were: Mrs. Henry Savage, Sr., Mrs. L. A. Kirkland, Mrs. Leonard Graham, and Mrs. Wilcox. Alter bridge other guests came j in for tea and a pleasant hour was spent. Tea Boom Tp Open Wednesday It has been announced that the Mt. Pleasant Tea Room will be opened to the public on next Wednesday afternoon. Tea will be served from U:00 to (5:00 o'clock each afternoon except Sunday. Each season this ante-bellum, home is opened to the public and'is an enjoyable drive, about seven miles South of Camden. Those who love to visit old landmarks will be interested in t,his fina old home and assured of a hospitable atmosphere where the hostess is Miss j Minette Boykin. Glee Club To Sing Sunday The Community Glee Club of Camden, a club of colored singers, will 1 give their seventh annual program of spirituals, melodies and jubilees on Sunday, February 9, in Trinity Methodist Episcopal church, on West De Kalb street, at 3:30 o'clock. The club this year is composed of a doublo Quartette and promises even a better program of songs than in the past, when they pleased large audiences at their entertainments. A special invitation is issued to the white people of the city to attend this service. Club Met at Lugoff The regular monthly meeting of the Lugoff Home Demonstration Club was held at the Community House at Lugoff on Tuesday last. On account of the inclement weather only fourteen members were present. A very interesting talk was given by "Mr?."J. W. A. Sanders on the care of baby chicks. The members of this club have purchased several hundred baby chicks which they expect 'to have ready for market in the early spring. After all business the hostesses, Mrs. N. P. Gettys and Mrs. J. T. Gettys, served delicious refreshments. Personal Mention Mr#. J. N. Kirven, of Darlington, is here on a visit to her Mister*, Mrs. John E. Khaine and Miss Muttie Gerald. Mr. James M. Gaudy, of Cincinnati, Ohio, spent last'week here with his family at Park View Ina. Mr. and Mrs. Clifton McKain, of Fayetteville, N. C., spent several days last week at the home of the latter'* mother, Mt?. I). D. Parish, on Mill street, Mrs. Edwin A. Stevens, of Bedminister, N. J,, and Mis* Katherine MacDonald, of Short Hills, N. J., are guests ut the home of Mr. uud Mr*. K. G. Whistler. Mayor C. P. DuBose accompanied Mr. N. N. Prentiss on a flight to Columbia last Monday. Mr. DuBose is a mem/her of a committee appointed by Goy. John G. Richards to make rules for the safety of aviation in South Carolina. The committee adopted the regulation rules of the Aviation Safety Committee of the United States. Mrs. HrEr Worcester and son, Mr. William Worcester, of Montclair, N. J., are guests of the former's son, Dr. and Mrs. James N. Worcester, winter residents, who are occupying Mr. Jack Whitaker'p residence on East Chesnut street. Miss Julia Mellichamp, of Summerville, is spending a few days this week at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. L. Wooten on North Mill street. Messrs. Victor Ward, of Lugoff; T. , Lee Little, T. C. Gladden and C. H. Hollman, of Camden will leave Sunday to serve as jurors in the United States Court to be held in Aiken. Mrs. Edison Hicks, who has been on a visit to her mother, Mrs. J. M. 'Dempster, on Chesnut street, returned to her home in Henderson, N. C., on Monday. Miss Minnie A. Clyburn left Monday for I^ew York?City, where she expects to spend several months. Mrs. D.^D. Parrish is improving after u serious illness. She Is with her daughter, Mrs. Hunter Lang, on Mill street. Big Sale Opens Today. Cnaton, pastor of the First Baptist church, at the parsonage, last Sunday evening, immediately after the evening service. The bride was attractively dressed in French blue georgette with accessories to match. Mrs. Jones is the attractive daughter of Mr. ami Mrs. J. W, Thompson of this city. The home wsa "beautifully decorated with valentines. A contest was held in which the little guests were asked t> pin a small valentine in the center of a large heart, the nearest to the mark was Carolyn Cooley, who received a prize. . The dining table lovely in its valentine. decorations was centered by the large white heart-shaped birthday cake, bearing six red candles. Pla ? cards were red valentines ami at each little guest's place was s small red and white basket filled with heart-shaped candies in rainbow colors. White ice cream was served with dainty cakes and iced on each was the valentine symbol. Visitor Honor Guest Mrs. Douglas A. Boy kin entertained at bridge on Tuesday afternoon honoring Mrs. Kffie Jordan, of Now York City, who is a guest at Mulberry Plantation, the home of Mr. and Mrs. David R. Williams. In the living room garden flowers were artistically arranged and in this attractive setting three tables of bridge were played. A prize was given the holder of highest score at each table and those winning were Mrs. L. A. Kirkland, Mrs. R. B. Pitts and Miss Bessie Farrelly. U. charmingly entertained Tuesday night, January 21, from 7:30 to t?:30 o'clock ut the home of Mrs. Carl West for Mrs. L. S. Flenniken, who has recently moved to Williston, S. C. The lower floor was thrown en suite and was beautifully decorated with pot and cut flowers. The guests were met at the door by Mrs. WCsl and Mrs. J. B. Gaskins. Mrs." Kv i lrhy, chairman of the Circle,' took charge of the entertainment and an interesting program was given,. The opening number was a pian > solo by Miss Carolyn MeKaiu. A short ta!1> was given by M-Vs. J. W. Kenney. An attractive feature on the program was a vocal solo, "In the Secret of His Presence," by Mr. R. L. Scaffe, Jr., of Sumter, S. ('., accompanied at the piano by Miss Annabelle Watts, of Columbia, S. C. A reading by Mrs. J. B. Gaskins was enjoyed^ after which a vocal number, "The Bells of St. Mary's," was given by Misses Carolyn McKain, Margaret McCoy and Margaret MeLeod, with Miss A,nnabelle Watts again at the piano. Andthcr reading was given by Miss Margaret MeLeod and the jokes prepared by Mrs. I. M. Minter and read by Miss Mar garet McCoy caused much laughter. In a farewell talk, Mrs. Kva lrby told of the love and esteem in which the honor guest was held and in behalf of the Circle expressed genuine regret at her leaving. At the close pf the program, Mrs. Margaret McCoy, in a few well chosen words, presented Mrs. Flenniken with a lovely piece of silver, as a token of love from those with whom she had so faithfully and intelligently served for six years. Mrs. Ftennlkon's response was then feelingly given. Delightful refreshments, consisting of a salad and v sweet course, were served. Those enjoying the evening were Mesdames Margaret MoC/oy, J. B.
