About thirty young people were present and MiSs Hearon received many beautiful gifts. , The out-oftown guests were Misses N4via I.ucas, Marian Beattie and Dorothy Sanders. The Rev. J. B. Hillhouse, who has been very ill with influenza for a weeH or more was carried .to Dr. Mahoney's hospital in Monroe, N. C., Monday evening. The friends of the family wish for Mr. HHlhouse ' a speedy recovery. _ Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Richards are visiting tne latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Mc-Caskill. The Rev. M. B. Gunter is spending the Christmas holidays with his parents in Leesville. Mrs. G. B. McKinnon of Lancaster has .been the guest for some time of relatives here. The two men four miles from Cheanee near the state line while Hicks was hunting. Cinder ft red three pistol shots at Hicka, all misses, and then Hicks shot Linder in the neck and left shoulder with both barrels of a shot gun. Linder went to the Guffney hospital^ and Hicks was not arrested, The influenza report for t South Carolina, just announced, shows an increase of reported cases over the previous week of 3,047, a jump front 5,146 to 8,103. The cases reported are believed to be one-fifth to one-1 tenth of the cases occurring and not reported by attending physicians, most of them not going to a doctor.
